Default A story that was told to me recently...

I couldn't find this story online, so I will have to tell it from memory (and I'm not a story teller, so bear with me).

A driver pulls into an intersection, slows down and them comes to a stop at the stop sign. As he drives pass the stop sign, he hears the distinct sound of a camera taking a picture of his license plate. He thinks this is very odd since he knows he came to a complete stop and he doesn't think there is any reason why the automatic camera should have been triggered to record his license plate (no doubt to send him a ticket for failure to stop).

Now angry and concerned that maybe he was just imagining the camera sound, he drives around the block and enters into the same intersection. He definitely stops at the intersection and waits before driving away this time. As he is leaving, he AGAIN hears the camera go off and knows that an automated picture was taken of his car.

Wondering why the camera was triggered, he goes back for a third time. He pulls up, stops his car for a good minute at the intersection, makes sure no cars are coming from the side, and then pulls away. Now, once again, the camera goes off.

Frustrated with what is going on, he drives home angry and not sure what is happening.

In a few days, he receives a letter from the State Highway Patrol. He opens up the letter and sees that he has received 3 tickets. The tickets were for not wearing a seat belt .

The moral of the story is that sometimes we can focus on one thing so much that we can't see what else is happening. I know I do this with the scale. I'm so concerned to see a number lower than a previous number, I fail to see that I've definitely made significant progress with eating/ exercising.

I hope everyone is having a great day focusing on your health and not just on a number!

I like that one!! Thanks for that reminder.

But really can those cameras tell you aren't wearing a seatbelt?

Nope, according to the cops i've asked. (I'm a little bitter, I unfairly got a $98 for a seat belt violation). But if you make another traffic infraction that triggers the camera and that picture shows you not wearing a seat belt, they can add that to the ticket.

I do like the moral of the story. The scale can't be everything. Attitude, health, making better choices all can't be qualified by a scale...and imo, those are just as important.

You did a great job telling the story! I love the moral of it!

PS... this came at a great time.... we are reading fables with my oldest (we homeschool), he may be happy to read one that isn't a billion years old and deals with modern day technology (which he LOVES).
