Talking Steel Magnolias -- #43

Good Evening, Flowers! It's a rainy evening in my corner of the world. I was up at 4:45 this morning, so I am heading to bed early tonight! I knew Bob wanted to leave at 6:15 and kept waking up during the night to check the clock even though I knew the alarms were set. Beth and I had a nice time shopping together and ate lunch at the Olive Garden.

We surprised Maddy during her lunch time and sat with her while she ate. I'd forgotten how much energy there is in Pre-Kdg. and Kdg. classes! There were several parents who came to either eat lunch with their child or to sit with them while they ate. We never had that opportunity when our kids were little.

Maggie -- I can imagine how much you are enjoying the kittens. Ernie changes his routine on a regular basis. For awhile he thought the bathtub was his playground and I had to wipe out the cat fur before I could shower. He hasn't done that for quite awhile now. He has the lid to a paper box for his toy box and lately he has been tossing everything out. He isn't very good about picking his toys up though. Bob's friend's farm dog likes to eat the hog food instead of his dog food.

"Gma" -- I'm glad your physical is over and your doctor sounds like she was thorough. I hate going too, but feel good when I know there is nothing seriously wrong. The doctors here give the pneumonia shots at age 65; I don't know why. I hope you got your swim in today!

Susan -- I knew you would get your work caught up in no time. I didn't work on a GW box today since we were gone most of the day. I found a box of pictures, from my mom, and will tackle that one tomorrow. If they are not labeled as to who and when, I will pitch them if I don't kow the people. Thanks for sharing the link -- it figured I would live to be 99.2. MIL said 88 wasn't fun so we'll see.

Hope you all have a terrific Thursday tomorrow! I'm going to bed and read for a bit; I'm tired!

Good morning to you all! Hope you are all doing well. I am going to get over to the pool today. I didn't go yesterday. This new bp meds can cause headaches before you adjust to it and I had a humdinger yesterday so didn't want to raise my bp by exercising and make it even worse.

Susan: My life expectency is 91. Heaven help me, I am not sure I want to last that long. I guess even though I am obese I have enough good factors in my life to counteract it.

Jean: The doctor called here last night, which shocked me and told me my barium enema was not thorough enough so I have to have a colonoscopy, but I told her it would have to wait until after the first of the year because you have to have someone drive you home and Jack is out of vacation time. I see parents have lunch with their kids all the time at T's school, but it is upsetting that they always have bags of fast food and soda with them. If I had lunch with T, I think I would just bring a nice turkey sandwich and some fruit or something and he always brings his lunch because he hates the school lunches so I know he gets healthy stuff. It is sad really that even with the ongoing education, parents are still not stepping up to the plate and feeding healthy food to their kids.

I have started a sweater for Thomas for Christmas. I need to get Jackson's done as I only have one sleeve to do then I can sew it together and put in the zipper but for some unkown reason I have been stalling. I also have one more thing to finish up before the end of the year that I work on intermittently. I think t's sweater will look great on him it is a gold with yellow accents. Really make his red hair look good.

I guess I better get going and get my daily chores done so I can go swim later. I have to come home and tackle the bathrooms as they didn't get done yesterday either because of the headache. If it comes on today, I am just going to have to ignore it.

Have a great day all and be good to yourselves and eat right!

Good Morning, Flowers! It's a sunny cool morning in my neighborhood today. I love this weather! I slept in later than usual and am getting a late start. I set the TV to come on and must have had my head "buried" because I sure didn't hear/see it. It is still pretty dark at 6! I need to clean Bob's bathroom and sort through garage pictures today. I'll have picture frames for the GW box!

"Gma" -- I sure hope you have a "no headache" kind of day today. They are no fun! The new med I'm taking can cause a tickle type cough; the pharmacist told Bob I probably wouldn't notice it but he would. So far it hasn't happened. I hope you get a swim in today. It is way too cool for swimming here unless the pool would be heated. Not packing a lunch every day is one of the best things about being retired. Of course now I have to fix lunch for both of us, but that's easier to do for some reason. T's sweater color combination sounds very pretty/handsome.

I am dressed but need to put my face on. I need to make a "to do" list for the next few days so I can cross things off as I get them done.

Have a great day!

Happy Friday, Flowers! It's a cool foggy morning in my corner of the world. I have the washer and dishwasher both going and need to vacuum dust/fur bunnies. I have lots more pictures to sort through -- found a 2000 calendar that my dad had jotted weather notes on. It seemed strange to see his handwriting.

I need to get busy; I am dressed and have my face on so I'm ahead of yesterday at this time! Have a nice day!

Good morning to you all! I am watching a Glenn Ford movie that is really good. It is one I haven't seen before called "Fate is the Hunter." It is about an airplane crash that kills all aboard except one stewardess and Glenn Ford tries to exhonerate the pilot, who is a friend of his.

I am working on T's sweater today trying to make some headway. I let Jack take the Mariner today so I am staying put in the house. I am still dealing with small headaches though I did go swimming for an hour yesterday.

We are going to have Thomas all weekend next weekend as his parents are taking a trip. I am going to pick him up on Friday evening and then drop him at his other grandparents on Monday night so he can get in bed early for school the next day. I am looking forward to lots of game time!
Jean: I was up half the night so I am kind of pooped today. I was just uncomfortable last night and could not sleep. I was upstairs, then down then upstairs, then down then up again. I imagine a nap will be in my plans today.
Jack pretty much makes his own lunch when he is at home as we kind of scrounge around for noon meals. During the week I eat a lot of WW type meals or sandwiches.

I guess I better get going and get something done this morning. Have a great day and a nice weekend. It is going to be another hot one here today.

Talking Finally Friday

GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
It isn't supposed to be as hot this day as it has been the last few days. Ragg Mopp doesn't spend much time outside in the heat. On cooler days he has a great time romping about in that big back yard which will is out mowing today. The church has a vast large lawn area and Will mows it also. He enjoys doing it with the nice ride mower. A member and his two sons have been doing the edging and the place looks nice.

I posted yesterday and it isn't here so I guess the grimlin got it. I don't remember what I said so it must have been no great shakes. My computer was acting real slow yesterday for some odd reason which I don't know so that may be why my post was lost.

Schawn man came this day and our freezer is once again filled with yummy good food. I love the smoothie packs they sell for they make it so easy to use. They have a berry blend and a yellow fruit blend. OH the fresh peaches now are so good. I cut up a couple last evening and sweetened them with Splenda and what a nice dessart we had. For dinner I had baked chicken breasts that I had sprayed with butter flavor and then dredged in Panko which were very tasty along with some green beans and a nice huge loose leaf salad. Life is good. I need to get what ever I want to do for dinner out of the freezer to thaw. My microwave is on the fritz and we haven't yet picked up a new one. I love to use one to do the thawing. They have sure come down in price from when we had our first one.

JEAN It must be fun to find things like that old calendar. I love going through things like that. I don't have any "extras" anymore since we went through everything to down size into that motorhome. Granted we have bought some stuff for this house but only what is necessary now. A new stand mixer is necessary (I think) and I will be getting one next month. I used to have one and miss it now that I have room for it. Kitchen Aid has them in such lovely colors now.

DONNA FAYE I am glad you are feeling better and can get back in the pool. Did you ever hear back from the school? I hope you you do get to go back there. What fun ~ having Thomas over the weekend. Kids are so precious and what time you can spend with them is to be treasured in your heart. I remember when I was a kid (preteen & teen) and my fathers brothers with their families would visit and we would all play games. Baseball, croquet & badmitten, etc. With all my cousins and siblings and all the "old folks" we had a marvelous time. After a nice rousing game we would all pack it up and go to the beach which was just two blocks away but most of the time we would rather drive up the coast about 30 milesto Carpenteria which was deemed by those who knew such things as the "safest beach." Plus there was a raft out in about 15 - 20 feet of water that was held there with a huge cable that was attached to the shore. If the little ones got tired swimming they could always hang onto the cable. We would dive off the platform and catch tiny octopusses and star fish and whatever else we could get down there. Life is good. I swam like a fish back then.

SUSAN Hope you are well and happy this day. I went to that age website and gracious sakes they say I will live to be 103. There is longevity in my family though ~ but 103. If that be the case I want to be ambulatory.

Have a great day folks. Type at y'all later.

Good morning to you all! Looks like possible thunderstorms coming our way today. It is pretty dark outside for first thing in the morning. I guess we could use some rain though.

My new walking shoes should be here on Monday and I hope they fit well and I like them. I have a pair of new balance, but they are so clunky and though they aren't really heavy in weight, they feel it when you walk so I don't wear them. I want to start walking in the mall a couple days a week at least and then I guess walk around here. I imagine it won't be long and Kelly and Tom will close up their pool for the year. It was really cold when I went on Thursday.

Maggie: I have a beautiful Navy blue kitchenaid Jack bought me several years ago now and I love it. I don't bake much because of WW, but a couple weeks back I made Jack some sugar cookies with frosting and they came out just like the kind you get at the mall. Of course, most of them went into the trash next day, but he got a little treat anyway and I got to bake something.

Guess I will head into the kitchen to help Jack as he is making himself some breakfast. Have a good Saturday all!

Talking Saturday

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
I am still keeping busy doing typing for Will. The kittens mostly leave me be when I type now. At first they wanted to help so bad but I convinced them that I was fine using my keyboard without their help. Going out to dinner this evenin with some friends so I have been eating real lite this day.

DONNA FAYE I will be using my new Kitchen Aid Pro 600 Stand Mixer for program friendly items. The one I am getting is going to be red and have all the attachments that do all sorts of pasta, grinds, slices and shreds. I want those attachments since I don't plan on getting a food processer like I used to have nor a pasta machine. It comes with a spiral dough hook, flat paddle and whisk. I have tons of good program friendly recipies that I can use for cakes and cookies also. Life is good.

Heres hoping all y'all have a wonderful day. Type at y'all later.

Good Afternoon, Flowers! It's a sunny cool day in my corner of the world. I forgot to shut a window in the kitchen last night and it was 49 degrees inside when I went downstairs. I turned the furnace on for a few minutes! I've been putzing most of the day, needed some cards from the Hallmark shop, and made a WM run. It wasn't busy which surprised me for a Saturday. I have a roast cooking and will probably end up using it for bar-b-q sandwiches tomorrow at the lake.

"Gma" -- I know you will enjoy having T for the long weekend. Is Marty coming along? Since I am home I like to eat our bigger meal at noon, but more often than not it ends up being at night. Frosted sugar cookies are my absolute favorite! I just read an "eat less" tip saying that if you baked cookies to keep them in the freezer out of sight. When you want one then just get one and enjoy it. That would be easier said than done here.

Maggie -- I've been going through pictures and know a lot of them are duplicates. The trick will be to find the other one "somewhere" around here. I'm sure that there are probably more of the same in MIL's albums packed away. Enjoy your time with your friends; going out to eat is a bonus! I enjoy watching the Food channel and some of them use Kitchen Aid mixers. They sure make it look easy.

Susan -- We are missing you! I hope you are ok!

I need to switch laundry loads so better keep moving. Have a nice "rest of the day!"

Jean -- from Iowa!

Good evening, ladies! Another hot and humid day, looks like more rain is one the way followed by a cold front.

I hurried up and got my chores done yesterday and pieced quilt blocks until it was time to go to bed last night. Today I went to the Bella Fabrics quilt shop with Glory and then we had lunch at the Crab Shack. Soft shelled crabs are in season right now, but we had our usual fish sandwich and coleslaw. Went to the library for some more books on CD (I listen to them while I quilt) and came home and had a nap.

Faye, I hope your new shoes are just what you wanted. I like Acsis or Adidas. I know you'll enjoy your time with T.

Jean, I just threw out a bunch of picture albums. No one will want them after I die. I just kept my wedding pictures and some specials ones from my family. I wrote a long post on Thursday but it disappeared into cyberspace.

Maggie, I love the those mixers. Have fun with all your attachments. Have a good time with your friends tonight.

I'm glad you all will be live to such old ages. Think we'll still be meeting here when we're 80 or 90?

Have a good night!

Good morning to you all! I got another whim yesterday wanting to get out, so we drove to Selmer, Tn, which is about 2 hours from here to go to this huge furniture showroom called Henco. The man that started it, built it like a little town. You walk down a lane just like walking through a town with trees and all and each type of furniture is in its separate area named cute things like bedroom town or whatever. We had the dog with us so we couldn't look all through it, but believe it or not, this guy is in his 70's and stand at the front door and greats every single person who comes in, asks where they are from and tells them all about the store. It even has a whistlestop cafe where you can eat if you like and I looked at their menu and it is lovely and varied for every taste and good prices too. You can even get takeout if you wish. We walked through part of the bedroom then had to leave because we had left Fortune in the car, but he thanked us for coming in and was just so sweet. They have beautiful stuff and lots of it. For example, they have 40 bedroom suites to look at and they deliver and to Memphis!

Kelly emailed me and said they were closing the pool today so like I said it will be walking for me now. That's ok, I just have to work up to walking long distances and it will take time, but it will happen.

I did my weigh in today instead of tomorrow and I am down 4 more lbs! I am close to my 40 lbs gone mark and am so eager to get below three hundred. We have decided to wait to go on the cruise because I want to be at goal weight and I don't want to feel I have to starve myself to get there in time. We are going to go to Orlando next year and go to Epcot Center to Disneyworld and to Universal Studios Island of Adventure with a side trip to Smyrna Beach to go to this seafood restaurant Jack wants to go to. I was teasing Jack about us being in a Cialis commericial 2 old folks at the beach all romantic and he perked up and said, "In those bathtubs?" The man loves the commercial where the couple sit in twin bathtubs looking out at a scene holding hands. Brother!

Susan: One of the reasons why our plan is to go to Islands of Adventure is that the Harry Potter theme park opens next July and we are going in September so we can go through it. I am all excited about it as it sounds so cool. Keep working on my quilt, I am doing this thing! I have never had the soft shell crabs or crawfish, which I hear both are pretty good. I have seen them deep fried whole and put into sandwiches on a couple food shows on tv. Do you feel back to normal now? I sure hope you do. One of these days we want to get back to Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown and we will take you out to dinner!

Maggie: I want to get a pasta attachment for mine, but haven't yet. I have the other three attachments. I have a food processor so don't really need the other attachments. I like a stand mixture because you can put the stuff in and don't have to stand there and mix it, you can go and grab other stuff as it is doing its thing. I think you tend to do things more correctly when you aren't having to stand over a bowl with a hand mixer. I think sometimes you cut corners in mixing time and your product can suffer that way.

Jean: 49? Yikes, we are cooling into the upper 60's low 70's but not that low. I imagine it was pretty chilly in the house yesterday morning.

We may have to take our new car into the shop. Jack is going to take it someplace today and have a code run on it to find out if it could possibly be a couple fuses out because as we were coming home yesterday and his gps quit working and none of the into the cigarette lighter outlets would work in the front or back. We then noticed the check engine light came on and stayed on, which is an emission thing, but Jack suspects it might be tied to what happened with the cigarette lighter outlets so he wants to check it out before we take it into the dealership. It is always something but at least we are still way under warranty.

You all have a wonderful Sunday! Faye

Good Afternoon, Flowers! We have been to the lake and back, I've read the papers, and have another load of laundry going. Jason and family were also supposed to be at the lake. After we had left for the lake, he called the house and left a message on the answering machine that they had decided not to come. He thought we were at church. Needless to say I was a bit grumpy when we finally did get a hold of him; we took along marinated chicken breasts to grill, cheesey potatoes, fresh fruit, and I made brownies for Ian that I promised him the last time we were together. Jason's birthday and our anniversary is the 3rd so had also taken his birthday card and gift with us. It was a nice day up there -- sunny, cool, and no wind. Bob mowed and we headed for home -- should have taken the boat out. It is like a ghost town because all of the tourists are gone now. For some reason a boat ride now just isn't as exciting as the first one of the season.

Susan -- Getting books on CDs is a good idea. I never thought about doing that so that I could listen and do something else at the same time. I guess I always think of them as being in the car. I've lost more than one post in cyberland and have no clue why. I wonder if we will even have computers when we are 80, or if some other form of technology will take their place. Interesting thought . . . . .

"Gma" -- Congrats on losing another 4#s! You are on a roll! Your new vacation plans sound like fun. I know you enjoy doing the searching and planning as much as the actual vacation. You will miss swimming in the pool but if it is getting cooler that is not fun either. Does the "Y" have a pool? My dad joined just so he could swim laps and did swim until a few weeks before he died.

Guess I will move on and do some internet searching. Have a nice "rest of the day." I'm also thinking about a nap!

Good morning to you all! It is quite cool here this morning. First time it has felt this cool when I let the dog out. I guess summer is over for all intensive purposes.

Jean: We have several Y's with pools, but they have upped their prices so much I think it is too expensive for me. It is $75 to join and $50 a month per person. That is kind of high just to go swimming a few times a week and you can't pay by a class or anything like that. If I were over 65 then I could join for free if my health insurance allowed it. They have a seniors program.

Jack is going to call Landers today and schedule me to get the car in. I imagine I will have to take it this afternoon and drop it off. He changed out the fuses and the front auxilary blew again and he had to change it a second time. We still could be looking at just them resetting the sensors, but like Jack said, though he knows how it might impact the warranty so it is best for them to fool with it and troubleshoot.

Not much else going on here. Coming along with T's sweater. I am thinking of getting more of the same yarn and making Jackson a matching one. They seem to be a quick knit so far. I still will finish his zip up jacket and my other project before I try and make it though.

Well gals, I need to go and get my chores done and help Jack get him some breakfast.

Have a good start to your week! I hope that keeping my fingers crossed I can be below 330 by next week. I would be jazzed!

Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is shining and it's another cool day in my neighborhood. It was 42 degrees when I went downstairs this morning. My furnace has been running off and on, set at 68/69. I've been to town and crossed 4 errands off my "to do" list for today. The washer is going and I'ved folded one load from the dryer.

"Gma" -- I hope whatever is wrong with you car is an easy fix. That is maddening to have a new car with a mystery glitch in the system. I will keep my fingers crossed that you are below 330 next week too!

The washer is done so I need to get moving. Have a nice day!

Good morning to you all! Boy was I sick yesterday. I had been having gas pains over the weekend, but they were awful yesterday and I had some other problems. I took meds to get everything back in order, but it took all night to right itself. I was pretty miserable and am dog tired today from it all, but I need to get started on upstairs cleaning today so I can get it all cleaned before my little redhead comes on Friday evening.

Jean: I hope I make it to 330 too and I just might! I seem to be doing so well again. We are taking T out to dinner on Friday night, but going to Olive Garden so I can stay on points that way. Love their yummy soup and I get the linguine marinara, which totals to 9 pts soup and pasta. Kelly told me that Thomas's wii was broken so she imagined he would want to play ours a lot. He can play and I can sit and knit. I am going to order the yarn for Jackson's other sweater to match t's today so I can start on Jackson's and knit on it while t is at the house if I want to. I can't wait to get to the place where I change color on t's so I can see what it will look like.

We dropped off the car at the dealership and they are so incredibly nice there. The serviceman gave me his card and said he would call today and let me know what they found. He said it was really unusual for a car that new to have trouble like that. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the engine light might be because of the sensor and just needs to be reset and that there is nothing wrong with the suv at all. Jack did tell him about the fuses, which shouldn't have both blown either and he said they would check that all out as well. So, we shall see.

Jack has a dr appt at 3:40 to have his thumb looked at. It isn't hurting now, but it was a week ago and he thinks it is his tendonitis acting up again so wants to have meds in case it starts hurting. It is one of those issues like arthritis and that can pop up with no warning and go away the same way. I just hope he gets right in so in case the car is done we can pick it up. I think we are going to have to wing dinner tonight as everything is up in the air at the moment.

It is school fundraiser time again. I am running out of stuff to buy. I may buy some candles and hold them back for gifts to my sister's and girlfriends for birthdays. I quit using candles, but would buy a decorated one if it fit into my decor just for looks. I will probably get a couple picture frames for the boys pictures too. I must stay away from the candy! lol

I guess I better get started on chores. I sat and watched the end of a movie while Jack was having breakfast so haven't gotten anything started yet. Have a great Tuesday!
