Default deciding on a goal weight

I was going to go with 135 as my goal weight but i'm not sure if this is right. If i remember currectly for my height a healthy weight is from 108-143. I picked 135 because it seemed like it would be realistic for me to get there but now i'm wondering if i should go a little bit lower to be closer to the middle of the healthy range. I want to be able to give myself a little bit of wiggle room in case i mess up once i reach my goal but not so much that i give myself an excuse to be able to gain weight agian.
So basically i'm asking how did you decide on what your goal should be? Is it best just to wait and see how I feel once i get close to my goal or is it better to have a set number now?

I started off wanting my goal to be 155, what I weighed before I was pregnant. I had always wanted to get back to my high school weight, 138, but could never get below 150 after slowly putting on about 20 pounds in ten years. So when I reached 155 after five months, I decided I would just keep going. I hit 145 pretty easy. Then winter hit and I started to slowly gain back some weight. Once spring came this year, I decided to make a break for 135 and after a couple months of hard work, I reached my dream goal. I think it is best to wait and see, but be working toward mini goals all the time. So even when you hit your dream goal, have a new goal for maybe a faster time around the track or replacing a bowl of ice cream every night with a bowl of broccoli. Stuff like that has helped me to stay the course.

I think it's one of those things you can't really decide until you get closer and closer to it. I'm just an inch shorter and I had the same problem.. I've always been overweight so I don't know what I'll look like at a thinner weight, but I always figured 130 was a good size.. but then again, I have seen many girls my height that are in the 120's and are thin but not too thin (I want to keep my curves).. so it got me a bit confused. So I also decided to go lower b/c I didn't want to be at a weight too close to the "overweight" category and more importantly one that I'm happy with.. but I still really don't know how I'll look or feel at 130 or 120.. so it's something you really have to wait on I guess. At that point, it's really just vanity weight anyway so I guess getting into the healthy weight-range that is maintainable is the real goal and anything more is just a matter of preference.

I think that is something you can decide once you're at or close to your goal. I've never been able to break the 180 barrier so really, once I'm below 200 my first goal will be 170. Body fat percentage is also much more important to me than scale numbers so if I'm strong and fit at 170 it won't make me sad (but probably that point will probably be closer to 160-150).

Keep working and think about it at a lighter time!

I'm the same height and I recently discussed this with my Doctor who recommended a weight of 130. My original goal was 144.5. I just wanted to be in the "normal" range.

I'm the same height and I picked 130 because I'm not curvy and I'm small-boned. That said, I think 135 is a good goal for our height.

Also, like other people have said, worry about this when you get to it. The most important thing right now is that you set realistic goals for yourself. If I were you, I'd set my first goal at 176, and then the next one at 166, and so on. It's so much more fun to hit a high goal than to be disappointed in yourself if you don't hit the low one.

I set my first goal at 140, then 135, then 130. My body continued losing for the next 4 months as I settled into maintenance and it finally stopped at 120.
I think a LOT depends on your body build/type, bone structure, exercise routine, etc.

I am quite small-boned, and 50+. While I exercise regularly, and have good muscle tone - I'm not an athletic build at all.

Thus, this seems to be a good weight for me. I feel good, can easily maintain, and look healthy.

So, start high, and go from there. It would be depressing and feel like failure to set a low goal and have to change it upward in my opinion.

I chose 160 because it's the top of my Healthy Weight Range (according to WW Online). I dunno if I'll want to stop before that. I hope so! But, it really depends on how my body looks as I get nearer my goal. I reserve the right to make adjustments accordingly.

I have a goal weight of 130, *but* if I get there and I'm not as lean as I want to be I'll lower my goal by 5lbs... I have a very small frame and have always been tall & lean, so we'll see. I say have a goal to reach for, but when you get there don't be afraid to re-evaluate!

Good luck!!

Well I have a goal weight of about 160, and even though that's still overweight because of my height, I feel I looked my best at that weight because of my body type.I was a size 8 at 160,165. I am super curvy, and tbh I think I will want to go lower, but not below 140 IMO

i have a "goal" or "happy weight" of 150. this is where i feel comfortable with the way i look. i also have a "dream" goal of 135. ill assess how i look at 150 and go from there. im not going to beat myself up if i never get to my "dream" weight, but it might be a new goal after i reach 150.
