Good Morning! (Well....Afternoon for some of us.
)
I'd meant to start my day with a posting but, darn it, I slept in. Reading some of the other posts here makes me think that it's not just me. Perhaps it's just the Monday Morning excitement.
Before I launch into things - the 10 second bio. My name is Lawrence - or Rooster as I called myself from time to time- and it kinda stuck with most of the girls. My username - RXZeohyr or Raymond Xavier Zephyr - is a short story character I created in High School and the name just stuck with me.
I'm in my mid-30's and have been battling with my weight ever since university. (Hard to believe, but the doctor was concerned about me being underweight when I was in high school.) I'm a proud Canadian living on the East Coast and I work in the Computer/IT Security field. I've been married for almost 10 years (this September) and have no kids, just 2 fur babies (cats) which are 12 and 10 years old respectively. I am an avid model railroader, which is a hobby I have only picked up again a few years ago and am quickly making a reputation in the local club as a troublemaker since the status quo is rarely acceptable with me.
I was a regular in the 30-Somethings forums for a few months through 2006/2007 - so some of you may remember me - and then things kinda fell apart and I walked away from even attempting to reduce my weight as emotional eating took over full force. My job sucked, I was dealing with some personal issues, and I was just - in general - not happy. Well...things haven't changed a whole lot except (for some reason) I'm ready to tackle this again.
So here we go. DAY 1.
Not doing too badly with consumption, I guess - looking at some of the calorie counts of my regular consumption - tracking using Fitday again. Kinda worried about my coffee of all things. You see, I don't drink a whole lot of it (about 2 x 10oz/day) but I do drink it with cream. I'm just not a fan of drinking with milk... But the fat content of coffee cream (18%!) is just nasty.
But we'll see what I can do. Other than that, I'm kinda worried about portion size/control, but I'll also keep that under observation. I'm learning what needs to be changed is a good start.
On the exercise front, I kinda failed today. I blame the weather (it's gray, foggy and looks like rain) so I didn't get out for a walk. It's probably just an excuse though.
Wifey - Another shout out to a Canadian!
Too bad about the "treats" on the weekend. (Well, too bad from the diet point of view, but I bet they tasted good.
) One thought about breakfast - I tend to meet the model train club guys on Sundays for breakfast. It's the normal breakfast special - eggs, meat, toast, home fries. Because I can't cook them at home, I normally get eggs over-easy (and dip the toast!
) and then treat myself to bacon. Neither of these are great food options - so what I have switched to is Ham (a little more lean, more protein than bacon) and poached eggs. Poached can have the same consistency as the over-easy eggs (still can dip my toast!) but without all the grease from frying. Something to think about. Not much I can do about the burger though - I have a similar weakness.
Rebound - I know ALL about that sort of feeling re your career options. There was a time when I was SO unhappy here that I was constantly looking for a job outside of the company I currently work for but could never get myself past the "what if" of making the applications. I know about the dread. I know about putting "life on hold". What I don't have is a solution - because the only person who can answer "what you want" is you.
Make sure you think about what will make you happy - making a decision simply because you can get a job quickly might solve some financial problems short term, but you could end up with a long time of unhappiness, doing only a mediocre job, working at tasks you hate. I've only been here for less than a day, but I think I can speak for everyone and say that we'll always be here to listen if you need an ear. (I know the girls were when I needed them before!)
rileyozzy - Congrats on the run! I did a couple of road races....oh....6-7 years ago. Same distance. First time, I walked the whole thing and came in dead last for my age group. But I didn't care. *I* finished and I was proud of that. Keep it up! I look forward to hearing about your successes in the future....maybe work into a triathlon or something?
willa - Camping. This is a newly discovered pastime for my wife and I this year and I know what you mean about eating badly. For me, it's not really the volume of food, but the type. We seem to have lots of snacky stuff and marshmallows for toasting over the fire... The last camping trip a couple weekends ago was a BIG bag of Cheeto's Corn Twists. YUM but BAD! (And they go surprisingly well with beer.) Oh well - gotta reward one's dedication to sticking to things from time to time! Just stay on track during the week.
Alright, I'd better get back to doing some real work. It kinda feels good to be back here.
to everyone who's lurking or just too busy to post.
Stay positive & Stay On Track!
