I have just heard that our beloved PAULA will not be coming back to AMERICAN IDOL.
Can they even have a show without PAULA
I remember her stealing the SHOW at the LAKER HALF-TIME from MAGIC and the boys...
My brilliant son, even at 9 years old saying "Dad, it's the concert of the year" when he talked me into taking him, his sister and cousins to see her , TLC and MC HAMMER somewhere around 1990...
I am sad that Paula is not coming back. I was afraid it might happen when they added Kara this past season, almost like they were conditioning us to the change before they kicked Paula to the curb.
Basically, American Idol just barely toes the line, for me, between a genuine talent show and a comedy act. The pompousness of Simon, the ridiculous auditions, and the transparent way they push voters toward their favorites (by feedback, by giving them the last singing spot of the night, by giving more of their backstory, etc). Paula was that little tongue in cheek "Yes, we know, this is all sort of a joke that sometimes produces genuine talent" nod to the people who might tire of the games and ridiculousness.
Without Paula, it'll go from "kind of funny" to "sort of sad".

STRAIGHT UP!...ooh...ooh...ohh
The only thing that can save this is hearing....
KELLIE PICKLER will replace Paula next season....
Bless your heart, Gary
My dad was SUCH a good sport about taking me to concerts like that that I was a seasoned concert go-er by the age of 9. One of the concerts of Paula Abdul and Color Me Badd. Unfortunately, Paula fell "ill" and cancelled the show at the last minute.
BUT CMB came out and signed autographs That was fun
It's a shame... From what I understand, it's about salary. She was making $9 million and requested $12 million. I think that's more than fair when compared to Ryan's salary of $20-some million and Simon's $40-some million.
I don't like Kara either and I never saw the need for any changes to the judging panel.
I also will miss her very much she made the show, I wonder if they are going to replace her or what?
I wonder what she will do after American Idol - maybe she will do something else on TV.
I don't know, I'm not really too bummed over Paula leaving...it's kind of like watching a sitcom where one of the secondary characters leave, it's a change but it doesn't devastate the show. Now what IS devastating is that "Kara" is supposed to be the new Paula. I find her HIGHLY annoying. Her highlight last season was going up against "bikini girl" during the season finale, beyond that she is forgettable. It'll be weird not seeing Paula there since I'm used to her being there from season 1, but I would have missed Randy or Simon way more if they left.

Yes, they intend to keep the 4 judge format. It's being said that Victoria Beckham and Katy Perry will have turns filling in until they find a more permanent judge.

I got to thinking about what I said JUNEBUG...called my son tonight...he said it was Paula and Color Me Badd at one concert then MC Hammer, Jodeci, TLC and Boys To Men at the other..just for the record...Paula came out on a swing! She put on a much better show than I thought it would be.

American Idol has become really boring. Simon and Paula playing slap and tickle got boring. Kara just doesn't fit in.
I think America is going to finally get bored this season too.
Paula was definitely quirky and maybe a bit long winded and sugary but she has a big heart. If it is about money then I'm glad she stepped away.
Most of America has not gotten a raise in a long time (IF they have managed to hang on to their jobs) and yet $100 million flies out the door for 5 people to "judge" a "contest". See anything wrong here?
I agree with most of you that the show will be severely lacking without Paula! I'm gonna miss her, even if she was overly expressive a lot of times. And I can't stand Kara. I haven't liked her since the first episode of the season last season. She's so fake, and full of herself and that bikini bit was just ridiculous, imo.
To be honest, I kinda miss the old days of the show when they showed everybody trying so hard to sing and stuff BEFORE they got make overs and all that stuff. I liked the idea of keeping them regular normal people until they got to a certain point in the contest where they started getting treated like celebrities and they had to decide on what look they were going to go with and all that... That made the whole show seem more real to me.
Anyway, I'm going to miss Paula as well. She always had a way of making me smile.

Ok, well now that I know what that night COULD have looked like, I'm a little disappointed :lol
