Default Review: Shakra's Industrial Strength Workout DVD

I took up bellydancing last fall, and I went off on a tangent when I was looking at bellydance dvds online. It went like this : Traditional Bellydance > Tribal Fusion Belly dance > Gothic Bellydance > Industrial Dance workout. When I got to Industrial, I did a 180, as in " WHOA! There's an industrial dance work out video???!!!!" For some reason I was surprized there were even gothic belly dance videos on the market, nevermind an industrial workout, even though belly dance is a huge trend among the goth scene in the last few years. For one, workout dvds are usually so mainstream, full of peppy blonde ex-cheerleaders with breast implants and too much caffiene in them that you seem to forget that other segments of society even exist. Secondly, I wondered how many copies of these DVDs have actually sold, give the small segment of the population goths & rivetheads represent. Thirdly, goths aren't exactly a subculture known for their fit physiques. Stereotypically, its populated by overweight girls and scrawny pale white guys. But the fact that a video featuring chicks in army boots working out to wumpscut actually existed was enough to make me make the purchase.

So flash forward, I bought it online, waited eagerly for it to arrive and did a little happy dance when it did.

As for the video itself, well, um, its okay. I don't think this is a video I would use to work out to everyday, but I'm not really one to use videos regularly anyways. I prefer to simply lift weights or go for a run. However, what it was great for was picking up a few new dance moves to use on the floor when I go out to the clubs. That in itself was worth the $20-odd I paid for it. Instead of standing around the bar slamming back vodka-crans all night, I can confidently get on the dance floor knowing that I am going to have some of the best moves in the club. I hope they make a sequal.
