Default For those with Omron pedometers..

I have the Omron HJ-112 pedometer, just wore it this afternoon, and these are my stats:

4687 steps
2.95 km
117 cals

Are my calories low?? Or are my stats correct?? I thought "most" people burned about 100cals per 2000 steps... ???

Sorry for the stupid question...

The manual, http://www.ccrane.com/instruction-ma...-pedometer.pdf, says that the calories are estimated depending on weight, stride distance, number of steps, and walking speed. They also give a chart on how to adjust this for different ages.

My estimate for 5592 steps is 214 cal but my weight is much higher than yours. I also have 41 minutes of aerobic walking so that influences it. These are just estimates anyway. I never eat additional calories based on this. It is just nice to see the calorie burned estimate.

Thanks for your reply.. I saw the 'adjustment' chart but don't "get it"... *blush*

So if my stride is 63cm. and i'm 35... would I still put my stride length at 63??

I just got this pedometer this afternoon, so had already went for my run (naturally). lol! So tomorrow will be with my run... i've been wearing it for about 3 1/2 hrs so far...

My aerobic steps are 2964 at 25 min.

Thanks again for your help...

It usually seems low (imo) for me. I pretty much only focus on the number of steps.

i dont think your age and your stride length are related.

I don't think the pedometer measurement of calories is very accurate.
The most reliable, readily available measurement is with a heart rate monitor.
I think that's debatable also.....

"They" say that the average 150 lb woman burns about 100 calories per 15 minutes of aerobic activity. Interpret as you wish

A more recent goal that I have read is to try to get in 3000 steps in 30 minutes.

Take care

The adjustment is for age. I am in my 50's so I am supposed to subtract 5 % of the calories. If it says I used 100 calories, I am supposed to adjust that to 95 calories. According to the chart, if you are a woman in her 20's you get to add calories by multiplying the calories by 1.07. So 100 calories would really be 107 calories.

WARNING - don't count on their calories estimate. I use it as a tool to help me measure how much I am walking. The calorie estimate is just fun for me.
