Question Maybe a stupid muscle question, but here goes...

Ok people... It can be the most stupid thing you ever heard. But it actually crossed my mind and even though I can sound stupid, I feel like I can ask this here at 3FC.
You guys make me feel that comfortable...
I lift weight around 6 x/week and very slowly I am being able to pack some muscle (thank God!). Lately I have realized that sometimes I feel little tiny pinches in my arms and leg’s muscle, like little fishes were “biting” it.
I wonder if this can be the muscle growing or something like that.
I know, I know, it might sound stupid as I mentioned before but it feels good to think that is what is happening and can even be motivating to me.
Please don't laugh at me... I am just curious...

SO not a stupid question! I think what you may be experiencing is something called FASCICULATION, which means tiny spasms of muscle fiber bundles. This is a just a fancy way of saying that your muscles are twitching!!!

Now, if you do a google search, you'll turn up all sorts of ominous things, where this is related to a host of mental and physical ailments. BUT the MOST common form of this is BENIGN FASCICULATION and the number one cause of muscle twitching is EXERCISE. This link will explain it far better than I ever could:

All this means is that you are WORKING OUT and your body is responding, which means that you are doing the right thing!!!

Hope this helps,

Kira

What is your lifting routine? If you are lifting 6 days a week, are you lifting the same parts back-to-back? It could also be pain from overtraining.

I rotate the muscles... One day arms + abs, other legs. I try to do abs with legs too, but sometimes I don't have all that time to stay at the gym. I read once it is ok do it Abs everyday - I don't know why.

Overtraining pain is different from what you are reporting, as it involves a sense of continual muscle soreness and achy-ness making moving your muscles difficult. This is different from the "fish bite" sensation that you describe.

I get this at various times but only after strenuous workouts. Its usually just very tingly. After a good run or a long bike ride is usually when I experience it.

I get light muscle spasms when I'm tired or after a very intense workout that sounds like this.

I sometimes feel that too, little twitches. It is an odd sensation. But I've never had on ongoing consistent problem with it. More when I'm out of shape, I think. I haven't had it in a long time, but I distinctly remember the feeling, and I think it's the same as you're describing.
