Default How's your BMI doing?

I started out at 170lbs and am now 161 lbs. My goal as you can see from ticker is 140. I have just checked my BMI and am still in "overweight" category, albeit a little closer to "normal range" .

Does anyone else check out their BMI?

Well, I don't want to brag... but my starting BMI was 39.1 and my current BMI is 25.2.

I started out in the morbidly obese category, and I am now 1.2 lbs away from being "in the normal range"

Okay, I guess I do want to brag.

I started out at 32.8 "obese" and now I'm 28.0 "overweight." I'm shooting for 22.0 "normal weight."

MrsWolf, congrats on that!!! Great job!!

No, I don't check. BMI was telling me I was obese. However, my bf% told me I wasn't obese. So...I don't check it anymore.

Me too - BF% says I'm normal, but my BMI will ALWAYS be overweight. I nudged into the normal range right when I hit goal, and I looked positively gaunt, and was able to maintain it for all of a week before it went back up 5 lbs to a more sustainable weight for me.

Hi,
I recently started looking at my BMI. At my Jan 09 weigh in, I was 177 (that's probably a 15 pound loss over last few years from a more usual weight with 200 or so as my max).

My goal this year was to get to the max of my BMI which was 145 pounds (or BMI_24.9). When I started to be very successful this year (shockingly) with weight loss, I redetermined my final goal. I now am at about 145 (need to weigh in on Monday) and plan to have the goal of 127 (BMI_21.7). That BMI number is actually an exact middle of the healthy range. Now that I'm actually at 145 pounds I see that I'm really peaking at healthy because I still have some pudge. I was shocked to see that I'd made it to this weight as I still saw pudge and such. I'm in awesome shape with great muscle tone so I know that it's just maxing out on the healthy range of my weight.

So, the goal of losing another 18 or so pounds seems to be a reasonable goal for health. Of course, I'm watching out and seeing that I place a hold at a healthy weight that makes sense to me and I totally will be done with loss at about 127 or 130.

My next phase is maintenance for the next year with occassional plans to go back to a weight loss calorie/exercise plan to adjust so I stay at that spot. I'm quite nervous to think I'm actually almost there. Just 9 weeks to my vacation which will begin the slow phasing in of maintenance eating.

I have an appointment with a nutritionist just before vacation. I should be five to eight pounds away from final goal weight then.

Started at 36.9, was at 20.14 this afternoon (so says my Wii Fit).

I'm a petite person, so BMI is a good indicator for me. DH is muscular and it isn't so hot for him. He is thin, and still "overweight".

I think the BMI is a good tool to use to find your goal weight. That is how I determined my goal of around 148-150 lbs. That puts me at the top end of a healthy weight and BMI.

According to a calculator mine is 25.8 right now so I guess I'm close to "normal" by bmi standards.

I just crossed over from obese to overweight. I am really glad to be out of the obese category. Now, on to the normal category.

It depends on the source--but for a lean woman, 21-25%, and for a moderate woman, 26% to 29%. Over 30% is considered "overfat." This is according to freedieting.com.

i started out just right at the bottom end of obese. that's actually part of what freaked me out so badly and got me on this weight loss journey. i've always considered myself at least a little bit overweight to solidly overweight, but never "obese." i'm not just at the top end of the normal range, unless i have a particularly bad weekend.

Mine is 24.3, so basically at the top of "healthy".
For the most part BMI doesn't work well for me. I have a broad frame and am really muscular. Anytime my BMI goes below 24, I don't have enough fat and stop getting my period altogether.
