Red face This is a first...

In my entire journey I've NEVER experienced a 5 lb jump up overnight. Never ever ever. Well last night my hubby and I went out for our anniversary... for sushi... completely calculated in my calories. BUT for the first time I DIDN'T watch sodium content AT ALL.

O. M. G.

So I had Miso soup, TONS of soy sauce etc...

And this morning? I'm 263.8!!!

I KNOW it's water weight and since I'm on my period I'm so much more likely to hold on to it but that was a huge shock.

Wish me luck today as I drown my sorrows in MULTIPLE bottles of water lol!

I repeat what I've just typed on the solstice challenge - the 5 won't hang around long and you've still lost an astounding amount of weight! woohoo!

Eek. At least you have a level head and aren't freaking out about it.

Good luck with all that water -- hope you're staying home today!

Hey! It was your ANNIVERSARY! Totally worth it. As you said, it is water, but even if it WASN'T, you would lose those 5lbs again in no time! You are on fire girl.

I NEVER get on the scale the day after eating sushi (or Chipotle).

I did that last weekend...5lbs is a huge shock whether it's water weight or not, but mine came back off in two days, then took another 4lbs with it so it worked out pretty well.

Oh, and Happy Anniversary!

That happened to me this week too. I ate off the 'healthy Mex' menu. The calories etc. weren't bad but the salt was SOOO high. I gained 2 pounds overnight. Then, I started weight training the next day and put on some more! Sadly, mine still hasn't come back down. I guess I need to down even more water. It does suck to have had a good week and record a gain but that's the way this game is played. Score one for the bod.

Glad you aren't freaking out about it. I TRIED not to freak out but when it didn't start coming back down after 2 days, I started freaking out- even though I KNOW it isn't a real gain and I'll probably see a big drop on the scale in the near future, it's hard to see the numbers go back up and feel like you have to lose that weight all over again.

Salt weight is all water, 0% fat - flush it out and keep going. Remember you are still burning fat so behind the "salt curtain" you are still losing weight so long as you keep to your plan as you are.

I'm glad you got to enjoy your sushi and your anniversary! You were so smart to pick something you enjoy that was special and let you stay on plan. Salt schmalt. This is a victory not a setback!

Sometimes I get a 5lb jump in a few minutes, but I guess my scale is just silly.

Congrats on your anniversary! Which year is this for you?

I've had that too, usually after I indulge in a pizza night. It always comes off in a few days.

The first time it happened, it was maybe three weeks or a month after I started. Had pizza one night, and was up 7 pounds the next day. I cried, and felt like a total failure. Then I got on my elliptical, which is a real cheapo, and a bolt fell out of it, which let me tell you, did NOT help me at that moment. I felt like I was so fat I was breaking the machine. (I wasn't. It's a cheap machine, and I was moving furiously fast on it because I was so upset.) I then proceeded to throw my Ipod across the room and break it (I fixed it later that day.)

That wasn't the best day. I figured out, from this site and from the scale the next day, that it was water weight. I was down those seven pounds, plus one more, the very next morning.

Don't feel bad, I did that a few weeks ago and bumped up 15 lbs (!!!!) due to retaining water, and it took a week of heavy drinking (water, of course) to lose it.

I hate when that happens. It's a downer, but know it's not true weight. I had a 4 pd gain overnight too. Went out to eat, had pasta, and bang, this am I was up 4 pounds. This week I will have to be completely on plan to get this off....

Good Luck!

Chinese food is the WORST for this. Went up 4 lbs (freakin 4 LBS) overnight, just before a WW weigh in. Of course, the week after was amazing...hang in there, and let us know how it goes over the next little while. We are all rooting for you!

Things that make you go EEEK!
