Default So today I found a situation I Would eat unwanted food in

I've always said I wouldn't eat off plan just to please someone else, my health/looks are too important for that.

Never say never!

Today I went to visit a couple in my congregation. They're in their 70s, she's very fit, he, sadly, isn't. He's had a stroke, a few years ago, and Parkinson's but when I went into the house he stood up and said, Welcome. It was such a big deal, I nearly cried on the spot!

Anyway, although it was the afternoon, it became clear they wanted me to have lunch. I was going to say no but it was such a big deal to them, they were so honoured to have me there, I just couldn't say no. Really.

I know the calories in rice, I know the calories in a hard boiled egg, I took a running guess at salt fish stew! I thought I might have to go low tomorrow to compensate but I've actually got a couple spare calories today, by dint of having lunch at 12:30 and dinner at 2:30!! I think I did ok in the end.

I'm glad you did have lunch with them. I'm sure it really meant a lot to them. You do such a great job at sticking to your plan. Good for you!

I can totally see that. And you are learning reasonable portions, there was nothing in that that I would say is "diet" breaking and you'll move on. Good job

Ailidh, I am so glad that you didn't end up paying in excess calories for being such a sweet, sweet lady! Kudos to you for putting THEIR needs ahead of yours.

Good for you!
These situations will come up all the time when you're skinny: learning to handle them now is what it's all about.

I'm glad you were able to honour them--and yourself, too!

LOL--once my husband's grandfather heated up leftover dressing (from Thanksgiving) for me in JULY! Worse yet, it was still frozen in the middle!

Yep, you guessed it! I ate it anyway.

I think there's a difference between a situation like this and eating to please a friend who made a sugary cake when they knew you were eating differently.

This was the right decision in this circumstance.

Whatever impact it has I'm sure will be taken care of shortly, especially since you tried to ballpark your cals and might cutback tomorrow to make up for it.

You handled the "situation" beautifully. The best laid plans - sometimes go astray. That is just part of life and this journey that we're in. Sometimes we just can't be so "rigid". Luckily, there is flexibility.

You handled the situation with grace and kindness. So it was a win-win for everyone involved, and it sounds like you came out OK calorie-wise in the end so that's a double bonus!

In your profession, you can't afford to hurt anyone's feelings if you can help it. I think you handled it beautifully.

It sounds like it was a good lunch to stay on plan. I'm sure you made their day.
