I'm so sorry to hear that. I know what you mean, I love the gym too. Is there things at home you can do? Videos?

Sorry to hear that. Out of curiosity, why is your teen driving? Out of necessity? Can he pitch in and pay for the car insurance? I personally didn't drive until I was 23 when I was able to afford it.

I dont do videos. But I guess I'll just have to wait till the sun goes down partially and just go walking. Its sooooo humid in KY in the summer, I cant hardly stand it. It makes me sick. I'll just have to be careful. I hate being poor!

Well he's driving cause his daddy wants him to be able to. I do too. But yes he is gonna have to start pitching in and paying for insurance, cause we just simply can not do it since its doubled.

ditto what nelie said...if they can drive, they can work, right?
I live much further south than you do and don't do gyms either. It gets well over 100 here. Getting up very early (even before dawn) really helps with the heat--or waiting until late in the evening. I also do DVd's from time to time.
I agree w/your screen name--Mug CAN do it!

I would talk to the gym membership folks. I'm sure they've lost a lot of members because of the economy. Maybe they'd be willing to change the terms of your membership and lower your dues instead of losing you all together?

Well honestly being able to drive and actually driving are 2 different things. I was able to drive when I learned when I was 16. I didn't actually need to drive until I was 23 though. If it is something you can't afford, then its a luxury and really a luxury for him because it doesn't sound like you need him to drive.

Yeah, in my family you got your license and drove when you could do it at no expense to the 'rents. Period.

It doesn't include any upper body stuff, but someone pointed me towards a 31-day 'no gym, no equipment' workout. I filed the link away in case I'm out of province next summer, in which case I might not have easy access to a gym (think out of the way places). It was part of a 31-day challenge he was running (so it might not be online after June 1st). Someone I know from another board has done 'in person' training with him, so I think the program is pretty solid.

The other one is also no gym, no equipment workouts, but marked as for advanced trainees.

This is exactly what I was going to say. Times are really tough now, I would make them an offer. If they're wise, they'd take some money, instead of none. This is a great time to bargain.

Most insurance covers anyone who is driving your car- so just take him off the car. My mom told the insurance that I wasn't a daily driver, that I'd only use the car "now and then" to run an errand for her. The insurance told her don't even add my name then. We had allstate btw.
I mean if honestly your son doesn't really drive the car anyways what's the point of putting him on insurance as a full time driver?

Another thing I thought of.
Do you have health insurance? If yes, there are many companies that will cover all or part of a gym membership. I would give them a call and ask if they will. They may have a list of specific gyms granted, but it definitely is worth looking into.
