Default Starting out around 200 lbs?

Ugh. Typing out the title to this thread really bites.

Anyway, I'd like to connect with some others who are starting South Beach this week (I started yesterday May 4) around 200ish lbs. I don't know about you, but it would certainly help me to see what other people are doing, especially if they are in the same situation as me. No offense to the smaller women, but I just can't relate to someone who only has 10 lbs to lose, or who wants to fit into a size 2 by next month. My goal is to eventually get down to 140, but anything is good for now.

Welcome Kathy! I started out at 228 originally, 215 when I started SBD. You can do this! You have to be ready and willing to change your eating permanently though, this isn't a short term fix. Trust me when I tell you that you will feel so much better once that weight starts coming off! I feel like I got my life back.

I'm sure you will hear from some of the new Chicks and check out the Phase 1 thread. It's a great place for just what you are looking for - support and menu ideas.

Hey! I just started yesterday for the first time too. I'm not 200ish, but I am 300 lbs, so I think I can relate. My first goal is 269 because I haven't been under 270 in 8 years and then I'll go from there, baby steps for me!

hello, and welcome! i started sbd last may, and weighted 212 at the time. just recently re-started, with today being my first p2 day. when i re-started, i was 182. I can totally relate to your not wanting to hear a bunch of skinny girls whining about their weight. I've found that this site is not like that (at least not the south beach section of it). I just want to wear my size 10's and still breathe!

Kathy!!!!!!

I started at 230 and did so 4 days ago. I've been on the program 3 other times. The first time I was on, I lost 12 pounds and then never made the switch to Phase 2 and dumped it altogether. The second time I tried, I lost 7 but in the 2nd week of Phase 1, I got really sick with a GI issue and was off plan for over a year. The third time was December 08-March 09 and I lost 25 pounds. BUT -- I went off for a wedding for almost 2 months but I am back now and on Day 5.

My first goal is to get back into ONEderland. I haven't seen a 1 on the scale in about 4 years. Then it's to get to 189 -- my lowest weight for as long as I can remember.

I love this plan. It's easy, and it's forgiving. As long as you are on yourself and work and try and do what needs to be done, I think you'll love it too. Please post with us on the Phase 1 thread so we can get a feel for what you are eating and such.

Good luck!

Kathy! Hon, I would have LOVED to be only 200 pounds when I started. Heck, I'd love to be 200 pounds now! But I can totally relate to having a lot to lose. When I started SBD, I was 328+ lbs. (the last time I'd weighed in, 2 months before, I was 328. I couldn't use my scale at home because it didn't go above 300...I used a scale at the university health center for my first two weigh-ins until I got below 300...). My goal is 175, and though I got close (198-205 ish) and stayed there for almost a year and a half, I managed to regain 40 a couple years ago and am still working on getting it off.

You're in good company here...most of us have far more than 10 lbs to lose.

However, be aware that those of us who have a lot to lose are blessed with much quicker weightloss than those with a small amount. So there are pros and cons.

back, Jenn! I always miss you when you're gone. Glad things are going so well, and especially glad to know that you're healthy enough to do this plan again!

to The Beach, Kathy! You have the right attitude and enthusiasm to make this way of eating a big success for you! I'm excited for you and will be eagerly watching your progress as you get closer and closer to your goal.

Hi Kathy,

I started at 200 and am on my way down -- slow and steady, mostly. Where are you in Alabama?

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I think I've found the place for me. I like forums and really need a place to check in often. I have a pretty serious addiction to junk food and the temptation is with me pretty much all day long. I usually can't make it through lunchtime on the first day without doing something really stupid. I finished day 2 without cheating. Here's hoping I can get through tomorrow too!

Chelby- I'm about a 20 minute drive south of Birmingham.

Default I'm here too!!

I'm once again getting on the bandwagon!! I saw your post about the amount of weight to lose and I feel the same way. I'm walking, running in spurts, and doing some spot exercises. I'd like to weigh in weekly and be accountable to post our weight loss/gain!! So I'm here too!!

Ack! I could kick myself! I started out at 210, made it down to 204.4 and then because it was Mother's Day weekend, I decided to go off the diet for "just 2 days" Ha! I should have known better, lol!

It is now Wednesday and I'm finally starting again. Guess I'll stay on phase 1 for awhile longer, lol!

I don't even want to weigh myself today.

Is there a way to start a small group here? Can we start a new thread each week for the over 200lbers and weigh in every Monday? I would go ahead and do it, but I'm not sure if it's allowed to form subgroups within this forum and since I'm new here, the last thing I want to do is step on any toes.
