Question South Beach Convenience Foods

Hi there

Bought the book, will begin reading tomorrow....

Have my Can Eat food lists copied. Also, the Avoid food list at hand.

I have seen South Beach Convenience types of foods in the supermarket such as: frozen foods and granola type bars.

Are these 'allowed' during Phase 1??

Thanks...gail

soon to be south beach bunny!

I can't think of a single convenience food that is for Phase 1 - all I have looked at are Phases 2 & 3. There are a lot of good recipes though that can help you through this Phase. Good luck!

SF jello, individual packages of RF cheese, Oscar Meyer thin sliced deli meats, individual packages of Greek yogurt, small cans of V-8. These are my new "convenience foods". Is that what you mean? South Beach is about eating healthy, unprocessed foods. The bars are definitely not Phase I. Both the bars and the frozen entrees, while labeled SB, are full of sodium, additives and generally not the healthiest fare. Most of us here think the frozen entrees are yucky tasting and have way too few veggies. They are labeled on the packaging what phase they are appropriate for.

Bunny, we've had a lot of discussions about the South Beach Diet/Living foods made by Kraft. You can find links to the majority of these descriptions in the SBD Items from Kraft? thread in the FAQ.

As Murph stated, SBD is really about getting away from processed foods. Though there are South Beach-oriented products, as you've noticed, but they aren't really compatible with the diet as it's described in the books. Each person has to decide for herself how they may or may not fit into her life. But, overall, you want to focus on fresh, unprocessed ingredients. You'll find some good suggestions for other snacks in the Phase 1 thread, in the recipe forums (try the Peanut Butter Cup for a delicious Phase 1 dessert! ), and in the links provided in the thread above.
