Default Its getting warmer... Summer Drinks :)

First I want to say that Alcohol is not to be consumed daily and most times a glass of wine is great for you! BUT, I really occasionally like to have a "sweet" "sissy"-lol drink... Feel free to post more recipes here as well!!!

Margaritas!
1tsp crystal light lemonade(I use walmart brand)
6oz Spite zero or something similar
1.5oz tequila

OR

2oz tequila
1 single crystal light packet(again I use WM brand)
8oz water
(I like just a splash of soda, optional)

OR

1.5 oz tequila
1 oz lime juice
1/4 cup water
1/4 teaspoon orange extract
1 Tablespoon's worth artificial sweetener
Ice - small handful
Margarita salt or kosher salt

SkinnyB*t**
Rum
Diet coke
squeeze of lime!

Hurricane
6 Ounces of Crystal Light Fruit Punch
2 Ounces of Rum
Sir to combine and serve over ice.

Strawberry Daiquiri
1 Packet of Strawberry Kool-Aid
1 Cup of Splenda

This recipe called to make the koolaid with splenda and freeze in ice cube trays- then pop about 10 of them into the blender with an ounce of rum and voila! you can top with sf cool whip! yum!

OR

1/2 cup sliced strawberries
1 Tablespoon lime juice
1.5 oz rum
Sweetener to taste
Small handful of ice (not needed if berries are frozen)

Blend!

Tom Collins
1.5 oz gin
1 oz lemon juice (fresh-squeezed is best)
2tbs splenda
Club soda
Lemon slice for garnish

Whiskey Sour
1.5 oz bourbon or whiskey
1.5 oz lemon juice
1.5 oz water
3tbs splenda

Mojitos!
1 oz. lime juice or lime wedges from about a third of a lime
8 mint leaves
1 heaping tablespoon splenda
1.5oz rum(white)
Club soda

Cosmos!
1.5 oz vodka
1 oz diet cranberry juice (I prefer light but it adds sugar)
OR 2 teaspoons unsweetened cranberry juice and 2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon lime juice
2 to 3 drops orange extract
2 to 4 teaspoons splenda

White russian(NOT LOW CAL this way, you could prob make subtitutions)
1.5oz vodka
1.5oz heavy cream
1.5oz Da Vinci's Sugar-Free Kahlua-Flavored Syrup

Not for summer but

Irish Coffee
1 ounce Irish whiskey
1 packet of Splenda

A glass or two of wine a day is fine if you aren't on Phase 1, but other alcohol is not allowed.

These recipes all sound pretty good, but you must keep in mind that alcohol will hinder your weight loss and will cause cravings.

I guess this should be in P3 extras then? I wasn't sure where to post but thought it would be a good topic- I know we can't all avoid it forever some are better than others! lol

Feel free to move wherever you want it, Just wanted to give some lower sugar/calorie options for people who were going to indulge occasionally

Rikki, thanks so much for this... some of the recipes are brilliant!

I know alcohol is a no-no, but total abstinence is just not a reality for me at this point in my life... so far, limiting it to 2 or so drinks, one night a week, has not seemed to hinder my efforts. Can't speak for anyone else.

Thanks again, looking forward to the day when it is warm enough to enjoy a cold beverage on the porch!

Okay, confession - I have the original book on audio book so challenging to search. I've found really mixed information about alcohol though, lots of places indicating that Dr. A prefers wine but alcohol is allowed in small amounts and with allowed mixers (which is what I, possibly mistakenly, remember) in Phase 2. Book people?

Just one example: http://www.southbeachdiet.com/sbd/pu..._20080111.aspx

If you do choose to imbibe, Baja Bob's is a great line of sugar free mixers, sweetened with splenda. I am particularly fond of the margarita mix (which I like so much I use it for other things, like marinating chicken breasts) and the mai tai mix.

Thanks Cyndi for finding that article for us! That does make me feel better about having a beverage, occasionally. although had you not posted it probably wouldn't have stopped me either ....

I made the margaritas with soda tonight(its 75 here!) and I didn't care for it as much as the one with just water...

Def. going to try the mojito and margarita recipes! One of my favorites in the summer is SF Lemonade(I usually use a generic brand) and vodka. I usually put it in a fancy wine glass with ice and a lemon slice floating on top to make it look girly and sip slowly. If we can only have it occassionally, might as well enjoy it!

By the way, your Marg. recipe with the Crystal Light and Diet Sprite has less than 150 calories. Now THAT, my dear, is totally doable! Genius.
