Default Veggie Juice in the Morning

I am starting SB today and I found a recipe in the Breakfast section for a shake. I'm not really into breakfast, so this turned out to be perfect for me.

But the book says that I should have V8 in the morning with my breakfast. Can I have V8 with my lunch instead? Or even my morning snack. I just don't think it would go very well with my "fruit" shake.

You only need vegetable juice if you aren't having veggies with your breakfast. Actual vegetables are better, more filling and less sodium

A V8 in the morning is just a suggestion as a way of getting in all your vegetables for the day. For a lot of people, 4 1/2 cups of veggies is a lot and this just shows how to spread it out throughout the day. I normally have oatmeal or another hot cereal with fruit for breakfast and don't have any veggies until mid-morning or lunchtime. But then, I love my veggies and probably eat more than the required amount every day, too.

V8 is also suggested, I think, because so many people are used to having juice in the morning. This gives you a way to have "juice" without going off plan. If it doesn't work for you, modify the plan. Great question!

I love my V-8. It ticks me off though that the store brands don't come in a low-sodium form. I never thought I'd like that stuff. But when the book said you had to have it, I bought a bottle and gave it a shot. I think it's awesome.

To answer your original question, though, I think the ladies are right. Not as important WHEN you have, as long as you're sure you're getting all your vegetables. And it's better than orange juice, a product I've never understood.

I agree with the other posters. Start with the plan and then modify it to reflect your own personality. As someone else said, it's not so much the "when", but just making sure you're getting all the veggies in.

Personally, I typically split breakfast into two mini-meals with the veggie portion acting kinda like an additional early morning snack. That's worked better for me than having everything at once.
