Question How many calories do you burn?

... in a typical gym routine workout? I know I could ask on anther board, but feel most comfortable with you gals... my fellow 30-somethings. Just curious to see what everyone does typically.

I had an extra good cardio workout today and supposedly burned 750 calories. I did the elliptical machine for 62 minutes to get that number. However, the elliptical is supposed to burn more calories than anything but rowing (I think) so that is NOT a typical amount per hour. It will really vary widely based on what you're doing and how hard you are working.

I wear a heart rate monitor when I work out so I know I was in my 'zone' for most of the time.

wow, i guestimate i burn about 300 calories in a typical workout.
such as jogging 3 miles or swimming laps for 45 mins.

of course, i've really slacked off on the frequency of working out.
but mark my word, by summers end i'll be doing at least 4 days per week of good cardio, if not more! just depends on my bum knee

I burn anywhere from 240 to 800 calories in a workout (800 will be from a long bike ride). The ability I have to burn a high number comes generally from how many carbs i've eaten and how tired I am from my previous workout.

I don't think that's necessarily true. How many calories you burn will depend on how hard you're pushing yourself, not on the machine you're using. For example, there is no way that an elliptical will burn more calories than running on an incline at 80% + of you MHR.

I try to do 3.1 miles everyday on my treadmill and I shoot for 400 calories.

I tend to burn anywhere from 300 to 500 calories during a good workout in the gym. At home, when I workout (to BL DVD), I burn about 200-300 I would guess.
