Default Do I want to loose 100 lbs. ?

Back in the day (pre-2001)...150 lbs. was my panick button to signal major diet mode. I gernerally stayed below 140 lbs. and wore a size 10...but when I got to 150 I had to go to a size 12.

Today I weigh 171 lbs. I fit comfortably into a size 12 and yesterday...I was even able to wear a (vanity) size 10 jeans. It seems at this rate...I will be comfortably wearing a size 10 when I get to 155-160. I am 5'10...I'm thrilled at the thought of wearing a size 10 again...I don't need to wear a size 8 and doubt I could maintain it if I did.

But then...

I know sizes are getting bigger...I have lost alot of weight...maybe I am just feeling comfortable with this higher number because I am so much better off in comparison to where I started...

What do you think...isn't a size 10 considered attractive on someone as tall as I am? Am I just getting lazy and wanting that to be enough? Do I get kicked out of the 100 lb. club if I reset my goal at only 90 lbs.? I think I am actually more connected to the idea of loosing an even 100 lbs. than I am with getting to a size 8.

You look totally HOT in the photos you've shown. I'm not being nice (well, I'm sure it sounds that way ) I'm being serious. HOT!

It's all up to you. It's your body, your temple.

For further confusion, at 5'10", around 155 I'm wearing size 6 pants. My workout pants are size small and baggy. My friends are always on me about how loose they are. Sizes have changed. Well, it appears that way to me anyhow.

I don't see that you're being complacent or lazy. We just pick numbers out of thin air, I think, when we start. As the journey progresses reality hits - and we adjust our goals according to our very individual body frames, needs and sense of aesthetics.

Thanks FB!

I can't imagine...a size 6 at 5'10? The smallest I ever wore in my adult life was a size 8! And I was very skinny. Could never maintain that...I guess I'm wondering...Are you that small boned? Or have sizes changed and a todays size 6 is yesterdays size 8.

I wish they wouldn't change the sizes around...I have a hard time judging what I really look like to others. I know that I used to look good in a size 10...but is that a size 8 now? So confusing!

I don't know that I'm terribly small boned - I do a lot of weightlifting, so I think that accounts for the more 'compact' sizing I'm in now. But, when I've done those little tests for frame size, I've always ended up with small as the result. My 4 siblings are shaped alike (I'm the only one with a weight problem) - tall, lean and lanky. Maybe I'm more like them than I thought.

How long ago is yesterday for you in sizing? For me, today's size 6 is equivalent to a size 9 maybe.

And for even MORE confusion... I was looking through my MIL's old clothing, from about 15/20 years ago. I picked up a size 10 belt and it didn't come close to fitting around my waist. Tiny!

I am 5'11" and have never been smaller than a size 10 (a 1986 size 10, whatever that equates to now). I'm large-boned and was fit at the time, probably weighing 155. My current goal is 170.

Sizes have definitely gotten bigger, hence the need for a size 00. As my DD remarked one day, pretty soon they're gonna have to come up with negative sizes!

it's completly up to you djay - not that you dont already know that. I'm hoping to end up at a size 12 (been obese all my life but know i can maintain at a 12). what will make you happiest and what maintainable/achievable? I personlly LOVE looking a good size smaller than I actually am, because of my height.

DJay,

Sizes have changed considerably. My formerly size 10 mom now wears a size 4 or 6. I have a size 16 from just 15 years ago, it is considerably smaller than current size 16s, (which I am in).

You can make your goal a size (but recognize it is artificial) or a number on the scale (in its own way equally artificial) or preferably a place that works for you. You may be more muscular than you were in the past (which is a good thing.) At 5'4 right now my goal is 140. The thought that you want to be 150 with 6 more inches seems unrealistic...but maybe given your build it isn't!

A long way of saying don't let the numbers drive you. Be driven by your own experience in your body. Do you look and feel good? Is this the right place? I promise, we won't drive you away, you are far too precious and valuable!

Jen...I think you are right...I will let my body decide.

I have officially changed my goal to from 145 to 150. I won't try to loose any more weight at that point...I will begin my maintenance journey...If my body wants to go lower...so be it...but I don't see any reaon to work so hard to maintain an extra 5 lbs that are not going to make any difference in how I view my size or fitness level.

It is actually quite liberating to give myself that 5 lb closer to goal gift at this point in the game.

I chose 150 out of the air as it seems like a nice number. However, I'll start evaluating how I feel and look when I get around 175. I've always had big hips and a big ole' butt, so I'll be happy for any size below a 16.

I've been thinking about this a lot too. I probably NEED to lose 100 lbs, according to the BMI tables, but I wasn't that skinny even in high school! I'm going to start out aiming for 85lbs, and then we'll see how I feel and look when I get there. The important thing is that I'm healthy, and can move w/o so much effort.

This sounds so much like me! I have the big ole' butt and big hips too, and always have. I can't imagine going lower than 150. When I was that size before, twenty years ago, I was not proportioned well. Huge on the bottom and tiny on the top. I'm really hoping the jogging will slim my legs, but I'm just gonna wait and see where I land. I have a feeling that my body will decide for me.
