Post Why I Love Winter...

I was shopping in Barnes and Noble this afternoon when I suddenly had a craving for Ben 'N Jerry's Double Fudge ice cream. It came out of no where and it was strong. I quickly checked out my books, quietly calculating in my head the amount of exercise I would have to do the next day to enjoy my craving.

Then, I walked outside. It was COLD! Craving instantly diminished and all I wanted to do was get home and sit by the fireplace.

Crisis averted.

I'm not sure how you northerns do it, but it was only 30 degrees here in New Orleans and I was shaking when I went outside.

Dieting is much easier in the winter (at least here and for me!) because during the summer those tasty little treats called Snowballs come out in force....

I had the opposite experience today.

I walked to a friends house (about 1.5 miles) and it was cold which doesn't bother me. However it had been misty all day and was in the high 20's so after I walked about 1/3 of the way there I found a lot of really slick spots.

I would have walked home but ended up getting a ride because I didn't want to hurt myself with a fall on the ice. The whole time I was thinking - damn if it wasn't icy I'd have gotten more exercise today!

You guys are wimps! It was -39ºF here yesterday.

To me, dieting is not easier in winter as I crave comfort foods like mashed potatoes and hot apple pie! Salads don't appeal at all.

-39 degrees? I would die. Yikes.

I guess I find winter easy because the comfort foods come in the summer here when it feels like 100 degrees with humidity. Winter is easy because it's not too harsh here. This is about as cool as it gets, which is nice.

Really? -39 degrees??? Gah...

-39 degrees f ... I didn't even think that was humanely possible (I had to google it as we go on celcius in the UK and holy moly) I imagine the north/south pole or something!

Ah and to think our country came to a standstill almost with minus 7 degrees c a couple of weeks ago

Winter is the worst for me! I only go outside to run to my car and back. When I am inside...I just want to eat very heavy foods in mass quantities and sit hudled under a blanket and snuggle with the dogs to keep warm.

I can't wait til spring when I want to be outside and feel light!

-39! Forget it. I would eat a pot of Chili smothered in cheese and onions...Have a cheesecake for dessert and go to bed!

Well it was -21 here last night when I went to bed and I still thought about getting ice cream on the way home last night. So I guess that is how us northerns do it! We just immerse ourselves in the cold. LOL We have friends that lived in Thibodeaux until Katrina hit. That was the last straw for them, they moved to Kentucky. It always cracked me up to see what she would think was cold. We went down for thanksgiving one year and it was in the high 60s and they were all bundled up to go out on the boat.

around here it has been bitter bitter cold. -50's with wind chill. I am bad with diet stuff when it's this cold, cause 1. All I want is warm, melted cheese stuff...and 2 it's soooo cold outside I just want to bundle up under the covers and not go outside to get to the gym.

lol If you hit up the snowball stand in City Park they now offer sugarfree syrup and it's oh so yummy!! Really though if you just like plain snowballs without condensed milk though (yuck!) they won't do that much damage as an occasional treat

My DH is doing a job on the Hudson River in NY & I felt like I couldn't complain about it getting 18 degrees the other night here on the Northshore (of NOLA for those that aren't around here).

I crave ice cream even more when it's cold....I know I've proven yet again how weird I can be lol

It's been terribly cold here (southeastern lower MI), especially with the wind chills. I could still eat ice cream. I think that is my one vice that I have the most self control problems with. I'm working at it, though!

I saw a study once that said that more ice cream is sold in the winter than in the summer...I think people just eat heavier in the winter.

Can't hide that extra scoop of ice cream under a winter coat in the summer!

My parents live North of the Arctic Circle in Alaska and today it's already 41 (positive!) Fahrenheit. Now where I am in Mississippi it's only 32.

Something is wrong with that picture ;>

Freak January warm ups...

Yeah, we've been in the -39C/-45C range too. Pretty brutal. Nice today at -18C.

I'm not an ice cream person generally, so the only time I'd be in danger is in the depths of summer, and then it'd be melted by the time I got it home anyway.

I HATE winter!!! Hate it! It would be okay for a week or two but this is ridiculous. I just want to sit inside and eat. (Don't mind me, I have PMS.)
