This thread is for all new and returning Phase I folks.
Please post your successes, problems and helpful hints in this thread where we can all share. If you are new, feel free to join in - there's lots of support here.
B: eggs w/ bacon
L: spinach salad w/ tuna, tomatoes, chickpeas, little bit of parmesan
D: 4 felafel (bad!) salad
S: none
Exercise: one hour volleyball
I slept late so I didn't need much food today. However I already cheated with the felafel...although I skipped the rice and french fries. Not a great day, but tomorrow will be better.
I have just completed the first week on Phase 1. It has been a struggle and I am bored with the food already. For breakfast, I made the spinach quiche from the recipe book and that was good. But now I am back to mozzarella cheese and cucumbers or eggs in the morning. ugh...
I did notice that the park skim mozzarella cheese has a good amount of fat in it and cholesterol. Should this be a concern??
Thanks for this thread...
Simie
Remember breakfast doesn't have to be traditional! I often have leftovers from the night before, soup, chili, etc. Don't be too concerned over the fat in cheese unless you are stuck in Phase II. Phase I is to kill those darned cravings!
Do you mean felafal balls? If so they are fine for phase one - they are ground chickpeas with herbs... if you mean felafel balls rolled up in pita... well then, yes not so great, but could be worse.
I will be joining you here tomorrow. I went shopping today in the cold and rain just to make sure I had SBD appropriate foods! I have my menu planned for the week, so I think I am good to go.
B: Mug of Milo with low fat milk, tomato
MT: Cooked mixed vegetables (is broccoli and cauliflower allowed?)
L: Vegetarian pancake (compressed vegetables)
AT: Tall skim latte
D: Salad with balsamic, low joule raspberry cordial (not sure if this counts as fruit juice)
Welcome, laker!
You can find a list of all the acceptable Phase 1 foods in the sticky in our FAQ section. You should add in a serving of beans every day, too, to help you avoid the flu-like feeling that many Phase 1ers experience in the first few days. Also, fruit is not allowed in Phase 1.
We strongly recommend that you read the book to fully understand the concept of The South Beach Diet and just how it works.
I'll be starting my phase I tomorrow. Thanksgiving did me in. Let's just say there was a lot of cake and macaroni and cheese (whole wheat, LOL) involved.
I did manage to work out 4 days last week, though. Hopefully that will help.

Funny you should say this because I actually had a bad cold today (but I hadn't started the diet yet hehe). Ended up only eating cooked vegetables and drinking soup today. Thanks for your help though, will check out the FAQ
Laker - I'm going to assume that you're a vegetarian by the looks of your menu. Being a vegetarian on this diet is fine and completely acceptable, but I think that with any way of eating you need to have a balanced diet. Your menu looks to be severely lacking in protein. There are many vegetarian protein replacements available as well as beans and other legumes being a great source of protein.
If you need help, post a new thread or a question in our daily chat. There are quite a few girls here that are living a vegetarian lifestyle while also doing SB.
I completely fell off the wagon. On a positive note, I did join the gym today. I have 3 weeks exactly to lose 5 lbs, so I'm hoping that helps.
PS- the felafel was on a bed on lettuce. I'm a celiac so I can't eat anything with gluten including bread, pastries, pasta, etc. so it really helps me follow the SBD. My weakness are now potato products
