Default Whats your average weight loss per month ?

Just wondering what had been your average weight loss pattern initially and then afterwards as you started reaching close to your goal weight. Did you stalled in between and if yes for how long.

I know it would be different for everyone..but just wondering how the averages go.

I don't have an average, unfortunately. It would be easier if I did.

I lose in chunks. When I first started losing, it just melted off. Then it stalled for a couple of months, then it started going again, about 8 lbs a month for 2 or 3 months. Then it stalled again. Now I'm cruising along at about 5lbs a month.

Whoo!

I usually average about two a week, but the past few months I have lost about 10 per month, so I guess it's really slightly over 2 per week.

During my almost year of weight loss, I averaged 2.4 pounds a week. But there was a month I lost 17 pounds and one that I only lost four pounds, so it was really variable.

It was faster in the beginning, like it is for almost everyone -- I lost the first 50 pounds in 16 weeks. Then it slowed down and for the last two months I had to fight to lose less than two pounds a week (seven pounds for each of the last two months).

The longest my weight stalled was for two weeks a couple of times and when that happened, I dropped my calories by 100 each time until I reached 1200/day (I started at 1600/day). I stayed about 1200 for the last six months of my weight loss and never plateaued after that. I credit lots of exercise for keeping my weight loss going pretty steadily for that year.

I mostly lose 2 pounds a week but in October I lost 15 pounds and in November I only lost 5. So it is varying.

Thanks Rinku for asking this question! I looked through all of my weigh-ins for this year on a monthly basis, and that's not something I had done before. Here they are, the first weigh-ins of every month:
Jan-215
Feb-206
Mar-200
Apr-195
May-189
Jun-182
Jul-180
Aug-173 (no weigh-in until the 16th)
Sep-175
Oct-171
Nov-174
Dec-172

So you can see that I actually lost pretty consistently until about September. Looking at this, I can see that it's really time for me to bust through this plateau and lose those last 10-15 lbs. I haven't decided for certain on my goal weight yet.

I did this once before though, and I plateaued at around 175 then too, for about four or five months. It must just be a weight that my body likes, but for my height 160-165 would probably be better.

Anyway thanks again! This was a good mental exercise for me

Well, it took me five months to take off 45 pounds, but I didn't REALLY start pushing hard until August. In the beginning, I just walked and began paying attention to what kind of food I was putting in my mouth -- So in June and July combined, I lost 5 pounds or so. However, after that I lost 15 in August (This was faster than I wanted to be losing, but it took me a while to find my calorie/exercise niche and I tend to take off weight very quickly in the beginning of any weight loss programs -- partially lots of water weight, I think, because of the extreme difference from day to day in my weigh-ins -- sometimes upwards of three pounds.), 10 in September, 8 in October and 7 in November.

Oh, and besides a few days of pre-menstrual weight gain every month and a "spike" day during ovulation (Who knew?), I also stalled for a week at the beginning of October, and then for two weeks in the beginning of November (Although that one was kind of on purpose because I was trying to slow my weight loss down as I approached goal...kind of playing at maintaining and figuring out how many calories I could eat, how much exercise I need, etc. I weighed 145 at the time -- which is a pretty nice weight for me as I wear Size 6 jeans at that weight -- so while I was aiming for my current weight of 138, I figured anything under 145 was just fine, and I wanted to be extremely careful to maintain my lean muscle mass as I got down into the Size 4's.).

I am just starting out but I have been told 2 pounds a week is normal by my doc. I hope I lose more than that 8 pounds a month. At that rate I will be still trying to lose weight 6 years from now!

At first the pounds flew off, and was happy to see 8-10 pounds a month gone. Then i stalled for two months, and after that I have to struggle. I would say about 5 pounds a month if I'm lucky.

I'm losing at about five pounds per month, but the weeks vary tremendously. In August I took an active vacation and the weight just poured off...since then I am back to my slow and steady.

I'm trying to do this slowly though, my goal is to learn a way of eating I can maintain forever. So far I've done this for 9 months, previously I never lost/maintained for more than 7 months.

Flatiron, guys tend to lose more quickly than women, greater muscle mass!

I've lost 50 pounds in 7 months, so that's just over 7 pounds per month. It's in the range of 1.6 pounds per week. Of course, it has varied widely...first week was 7 pounds and I've had a few 4-pound weeks too. Then again, I've had weeks where I gained back and/or lost zero pounds or half a pound.

It's been said often here before...weightloss is not linear or predictable. The key is a good plan, and consistency over time at sticking to that plan; that's how the weight comes off.

My average is around 3 pounds a week. It started out very fast though. I was just looking at this last night. It has been 9 months today since I started actually counting calories and weighing weekly. The first 3 months I lost 60 pounds. (A TON of water, as I had pretty bad edema in my feet and legs). The next 3 months I lost 40 pounds and the last 3 months I have lost 30 pounds. I have done nothing different, just counting and staying on my plan 99.5 % of the time.
