Thumbs up High Protein Breakfast Cereal

I went down to the cafeteria this morning at work and they had a new breakfast food next to the oatmeal.

"Sunrise Blend" which is comprised of:
Local wheat
Buckwheat
Red Rice
Flax
Quinoa

I tried some and it was great! A little on the bland side, but that's where you great chicks come in! Any suggestions on how to "season" this blend?

Thanks!

Oh yummy... good find! I'd recommend a tbsp. of PB or some pumpkin and cinnamon!

What is the consistency? Because if it's anything like oatmeal, then yogurt is always an excellent option. like a parfait.

If this is a hot cereal, then I like sugar free torani syrups. I use almond roca flavor on my oatmeal.. yum!

I'd do the same things I do with oatmeal:

pumpkin and spices (already has the flaxseed)

blueberries and banana

apples and walnuts and cinnamon

etc etc etc

Hmmm, raisins or dried cranberries and walnuts or pecans are my fallback for hot cereal. I bet dried blueberries would be awesome too.

Well, if it's like oatmeal, in the morning lately I've been using some dried cranberries, sliced almonds, fat free half and half, and sugar free torani syrup (either the white chocolate or amaretto).

So basically, good options are dried fruits (raisins, cranberries, blueberries, etc.), fresh fruit (apples or bananas), nuts, coconut, cocoa powder (perhaps), a little peanut butter, some pumpkin... I've even made a sort of carrot cake oatmeal that had finely shredded carrots, raisins, cinnamon, chopped pecans and crushed pineapple, sweetened with a little Splenda. You could try different sweeteners... maybe a little brown sugar or a teeny bit of molasses for flavor.

I love oatmeal!

You know ... everyone always has suggestions for sweet things to add to oatmeal or hot cereal, but I personally don't like sweets in the morning. Actually I've never had much of a sweet tooth, but even more in the mornings.

When I make oats, I often put some shredded cheese in them. Or I'll add salt and pepper for flavor, sometimes with a little bit of butter. Sometimes I'll cook them in chicken broth or veggie broth for a flavor boost.

Think outside the box here ... sometimes something different like some cheese and a piece of crumbled bacon can really jazz up plain hot cereal for not a lot of calories.

Thank You everyone! I knew this was the right place to ask!

The consistancy is not soupy, you can see and taste all the different textures. And it is served hot.

It's a great find and I'm glad that they have added it. While I love my morning oatmeal, I'm glad to have another hot cereal choice! Our cafeteria is great about offering a wide variety of choices for meals. Taking into account just about every eating lifestyle.

Thanks again!! Have a great day!
