kuhljeanie, what are you doing to burn that many calories and how long is it taking you to do it? I'm on my second week on my life change and just hired a workout coach - 3000 calories in one workout - I think I'd be dead-lol!

mazza, I'm a waitress/prep cook my day begins at 5:30 a.m.and ends at 4p.m. On the way home, I stop at the YMCA and do 30 minutes on the elliptical and burn at least 325-350 calories. Let me tell ya, that's the machine!

I pay very close attention to what I eat now and try to keep my calorie count between 1100 and 1200. I believe that's going to go up since I am to start weight lifting tomorrow.

Here's the point I'm trying to make...anything over what you normally do in a day will lead to weight loss. For me, I work in a small 10 table restaurant that's very busy - I move more than someone who is behind a desk all day- so I need to push myself more to see results since my body is use to moving.

I suggest starting out at 30 min intervals and gradually increase as you see yourself accomplishing your workout with greater ease. Good Luck!

Hehe Chunckymonkey - thank you for the advice but I guess I meant this thread as a sort of mindless-chatter thing. Just out of curiosity.

Just like you, I usually do interval training - on different machines and at different levels of intensity, but mainly high intensity intervals. When I lost the weight, I stuck to low calories in the beginning and then began to up them as I became leaner.

I believe my highest has been in the mid 1800's for a 30 mile bike ride.

For a normal day's workout highs lately are in the neighborhood of 900 or so for an hour's worth of very very hard effort... I guess about the same as the bike ride since that burned 900 cals per hour as well.

Heya mazza,
For that ride I avg'd 15 mph as it took two hours. Speeds for me range wildly, my husband was with me on that ride so I took it easy on him. Still, he hasn't gone with me since - I don't think it was a pleasure ride for him

Hmmmm ... ran a full marathon (once), that's gotta be about 2200 calories. Day-hiked 14 miles last summer up/down mountains, I figure that was probably pushing 2500 calories that day.

For routine stuff: My weekly long run is averaging 12-15 miles right now as I am in half-marathon training season, so that is probably 1000-1200 calories burned. I'm really small, so I don't burn as much as normal people do .... but then it probably requires less effort, too!

the half marathon took me well over 3 hours, pushing pretty hard. i was sacked out for a week! i spent almost 4 months training for it. but technically it was a single workout, right?

Quite honestly, I never even think about the number of calories I might be burning during a workout - I like to think about the calories that all that glorious muscle tissue I'm building is going to keep right on burning while I'm just going through my regular day

Today! I rode to work (it was Ride To Work day) even though I wasn't working.

1899 calories! And that was a low estimate - as a little game I decided to only count the "cycling" calories and not the "pushing the bike up the hill" calories. But quite a few times I forgot to restart my HR monitor when I got back on my bike.

That was about 40km, very hilly (northern suburbs of Brisbane), 1 1/2 hours in and 2 1/2 hours back - I was getting pretty tired by the time I turned round and rode home.
