I was wondering if you could share some of your exercise wisdom with me. I have been finding lately that I am getting very tired in the middle of my work out. Physically I am fine but I just have no energy. I was thinking of eating something right before my work-out to help with that but wasn't sure what. Anyway, if you have any suggestions that would be great. Thanks!
Great article! I've been wondering the same thing. I usually come home from work famished. Based on the info, I think I'll eat a banana about an hour before a work out (just before leaving work). It has a good balance of sugars and carbs and someone once told me that the potassium will help with soreness. After a workout I'll just eat a well balanced dinner with carbs and protein.
Thanks for the info!
I have found that eating a well-balanced meal about an hour before hand gives me the most energy. For example, last night I had lentils with some chicken breast and steamed broccoli and I had an AWESOME workout. Also, if I don't want to eat a full meal before hand, a piece of fruit like an orange or banana works just fine as my workout fuel.
I usually have an apple and some cheese in the afternoon and sometimes I'll drink a V8 on my way to the gym. Plenty of carbs for a workout, but not so heavy that it makes me feel bad.
Afterwards, I ALWAYS have a protein drink. On days that I lift, by the time I get home, I'm hungry enough to gnaw my own arm off! So I come home and chug a basic protein drink (sometimes just milk and protein powder, sometimes OJ and protein powder).
