I usually dump the following in a food processor:
1 can garbanzo beans, drained
1 T tahini (you can also use peanut butter)
1 - 2 T chopped garlic
1 - 2 T lemon juice
some salt & pepper
After I pulse it all up, I taste and see what else it may need. Sometimes I also throw in pitted Kalamata olievs or sun dried tomatoes.
