Default Wanna be an Olympian? Eat McDonald's!

I laughed out loud when McDonald's ran an ad for a biscuit breakfast sandwich, like it was serious health food - lots of Olympians holding the thing and smiling like they were on the medal podium. It was surreal.

Not sure which is worse - the implication that this is the kind of food to get you healthy and into shape - or that people *not* training away 5000 calories a day can eat like that.

I saw that and all I could do is sigh in disgust. I can't believe they're still trying to sell themselves as healthy.

They aren't necessarily saying that they are healthy. They're saying that 1) athletes eat them, and 2) they are worth the same sort of effort and dedication to acheive that a gold medal is.

Neither of which are true either.

I find it funny that McDonalds is a top sponsor of the olympics. I laughed when I saw that commericial because I thought it was a joke. But, I think if there is anyone who can eat that sandwich, it is an olympic athelete who probably have the most outrageous metabolisms and workouts to burn it off.

I always thought it was ironic because of all the people in the world I don't think an Olympic Athlete would eat a biscuit breakfast sandwich from McD's. I remember hearing somewhere who was an Olympic Athlete who had never consumed fast food.

I saw that too and I couldn't believe it either -- I understand that these atheletes make their money from endorsements, but I can't believe for a second that anyone at the Olympics eats McDonald's chicken biscuit sandwiches... you know... ever.

Yeah, but I look at it from the perspective of the athletes: it's just plain not cheap to train and get to the Olympics, and if a huge corporation is going to give you money to hold a burger or a sandwich, I'd probably do it, too.

Obviously it would be great if they promoted a healthy image 24/7, but some of the machines they talk about these people using -- like 75,000-dollar anti-gravity treadmills -- have to come from somewhere.

The real owness should be on McDonalds to, y'know, actually offer something healthy.

"Hey, kids! Who likes apples? Well, here you go -- with a huge glob of caramel!"

You'd think. But they did a segment last night on what Michael Phelps eats. 8000-10000 calories. All I'll say is he's not getting there with veggies . Although I do think you can increase calories in healthier ways.
