I was curious to see if any of you have tried the diet or read about it? I have two girls at work who did it and lost at least 20 lbs in the 21 days they did it. (one lost 40!) I am just so frustrated and thinking I might need a "jumpstart" to get motivated...
Is this the Martha's Vineyard 21 Day Detox? I have it and personally would not recommend it. The weight lost is the kind that comes back quickly (fluids etc). I've also read bad reviews of it by dietitians.
Detoxing is a good way to start off weight loss. But 21 days is a long time if you ask me. I started doing the fat smash diet and the start of the diet is a detox phase for nine days and you can only have certain foods. In that period I had lost 12lbs BUT after the nine days you can add in meats and some other foods. Maybe you should try that!
The Fat Smash detox is a good diet plan filled with lots of grains, veggies, dairy, etc. It's real food, and the word detox means something else. The Martha's Vineyard detox is the other kind of detox where they encourage enemas, and laxatives and diuretics masquerading as 'cleansing' products. They also sell kits for $200 to get you started.
I agree that the Fat Smash plan would be a better option
If a person wants to eat really clean (natural, whole foods, nothing artificial etc.), exercise in a way that challenges them, boost fiber intake, get a massage, do yoga and so on to really get a "jump start" to a healthy lifestyle and weight loss, that is a safe, healthy way to do it, in my opinion.

I second that. I had a friend who did one of those detox type diets (supposed to be for 20+ days). She barely lasted 10 and lost 7lbs...only to gain them back as soon as she started eating food again. She was starving the whole time and felt miserable for weeks afterwards.
I think eating clean is the best way to detox. Just from personal experience I don't know anyone whose ever done these detox diets and not put the weight back on right after. A lot of them also don't preach weight loss, just cleaning out your system. Weight loss is a side effect and not an expectation. (Though that may not be the case in what you're talking about.) Honestly, I think if you eat clean, non-processed food, drink water and maybe take a few good quality supplements (multivitamin, omega 3 oils for example) you're well on your way to "detoxing" your system without having to starve your body.
