In the last month and a half, I've gone from a 34 C to a 34 D, and I need all new bras now! I'm a poor college student, with a VERY minimal budget - and I'm trying to find some items I'd feel good in, but won't break my bank. It's proving really difficult. Any recommendations?? I'm willing to check out anywhere!
How much can you spend? I have found that a cheap bra is a cheap bra, and if it is cheap, it often LOOKS cheap. I notice this more because I don't have the kind of breasts you can just put in any old thing and walk out the door. I have lost a lot of weight and need something GOOD.
I don't like to spend a lot of money on undergarments, though. I think I would just rather spend money on clothes I can show off
I have found the best bra ever at Victoria Secret. It's supportive, and gives me an awesome shape. This is worth the 80 bucks every 6 months or so for 2. When I have to, I can get away with 1 and rotate with old ones (they are usually $38 unless they are on sale, which VS does often).
So if you can spend under $50 finding a GREAT bra that will last a while, I would go that route. For me, it's VS.
I feel your pain as I am a poor grad student and losing weight affects my bra size. I used to wear the curvation...which I loved but I haven't worn them since I was a 38 c/d...I'm a huge fan of Victoria Secret now (since sometimes its hard to find a 32 D) but I shop online and they do sales with multiple bras 2/$40 or 2/$44.
However, I have found many bras that I like at target and wal-mart and its just about trying them on and seeing how they feel.
I can spend 50-75. Really I'm trying to get the most for my money. I've only got 1 regular bra that fits right now (+1 sports bra that mostly fits) but I've also just learned that GapBody (where I got my 1 bra) doesn't carry D's on it's website, and Victoria's Secret ususally doesn't carry D's in store - so I'm feeling really discouraged!
Save money by taking care of whatever you do buy. I have read that a bra will last much longer if you alternate at least 2 or 3, so there are a day or two between wearing the same one again. It is supposed to be good for the elastic. They will also last better if you put your arms through and hook it behind you, instead of hooking in front and twisting it around. I was never able to get decent bras for cheap, especially at my higher weights. I don't mean I spent $50 on one bra, but I did have to go for the standard mainstream brands. The cute but skimpy and cheapo Walmart or Target one do nothing for you, which is just a shame.
if you can wait a few days for a bra to be delivered...I highly recommend VS online...they generally have the D's and the quality is there along with the sale price of $20-$22 a bra. I have two 34 D's that I bought last summer. I am still wearing them and they show very little wear and tear and I wear them daily.
The one I like is the Body by Victoria extreme plunge push-up. But honestly, I think it's a personal thing. I'm a B cup, so I like the boost. You may not.
I like the full coverage bras at Victoria's Secret. You can often get a good deal on them online when they are on sale. I used to only wear this brand from Cabernet at Dillards. They fit awesome.
Honestly, I love the Gilligan O'Malley bras that Target carries. They have a ton of different styles and cuts and I can always find one that is comfortable and really FITS. They're not expensive - ranging from $10 to $25 a bra, depending.
I don't believe you have to spend $$$ to get a good bra. You just have to find one that FITS.
You know, to be honest.. I always buy bras where I'll try it on, looks good, will buy it, then after a few days it looks horrible! And they're always on the pricey side.. SO.. I don't want to recommend a brand but I will say that I used to buy bras from Macy's when they'd have the sales.. buuut.. actually, I found a lot of the same brands and exact same models at TJ Maxx or Marshall's. I found a $40 bra I wanted at TJ Maxx for about $15.. Just make sure you get the right size. I think I've been doing the wrong sizes or something... I think I'm a 36D but.. I usually get spillage.. and DD is way too big... meh. I hate bra-shopping..
I have the original Body by Vicotria and it's the ONLY one that fits me perfectly. I think it costs about $40.00 or so. I think it's totally worth the $ because it's the most comfortable and it looks great. I'm also the kind of person that has to try a million and one bras before something fits the right way.
