Default Any ideas?

I hate how most of each day is spent at work (for me at least). 8 hours, 5 days a week... I'm having alot of trouble working in exercise each day, because I'm at work so much out of the day (and during crazy hours).

Do any of you have any ideas on exercises that I can do at work?

I usually have about 2-3 hours during my shift when there's nothing going on, and I feel I could put it to good use!

There aren't any stairs here, so going up and down stairs isn't an option. The halls aren't very long either...

There are a few of us that take walks outside around the building...and there is another group that does yoga during lunch hour. I know it's hard when you are working so much...but every little bit helps

Do you have an office or a break room? How about buying some resistance bands - they are super portable. Then you can do a workout like this one.

Both good ideas! The building isn't very big where I work, but a few times around it might equal a block!

hehe... I wonder what everyone is going to think when they see my head bobbing by the windows every few minutes...

I have some weights somewhere, they I think I'll find, and take to work. I can hide in the bathroom and to them!

Thank you!

Lalique,

Lots of repetitive exercises work in small spaces. Bands and weights can be done while on the phone (with one hand). There are a variety of leg lifts that are done while seated.

Also try standing with your back against the wall and moving into a seated position, then holding. Fabulous for the abs, much harder than you think!

Great idea...you've made me start thinking of what I can do at work to increase my activity level.

oooh, thanks for the resistance band link Lori! Like lalique I don't have much time in my non-work day for planned exercise (I do get exercise like moving and stacking firewood and taking the dogs for long walks). However, I'm lucky to have some time at work I can do exercise. I bought a resistance band but was a bit clueless about what to do about it. I have a couple DVDs I've been trying out as well. And I'm borrowing a wii from a friend - not a real workout, I know, but if it gets me up and moving regularly then it's more than what I was getting before and well worth it.

I'm going to try the resistance band stuff tonight!

I also work full time - 8.5 hours a day 5 times a week, with a 1 hour commute. I guess I am fortunate to be busy every single second of the day, I walk a LOT at work... how come working out before or after work isn't an option for you? I sometimes don't get home from work until 11pm, and have been known to break out a workout video to get exercise in.

I've been taking cues from skinny people in my life, and when doing things like watching tv, I always get up during the commercials, even if it's just to put something in the garbage - that could easily be translated to the work place. Get up every 10 minutes for 2-3 minutes to do something, anything, as long as you are moving. I know someone who doesn't exercise at all and stays on the thin side just by being active.

Aimee, I love the getting up at commercials idea. I have done this when I was feeling active but I never consciously THOUGHT about doing it on a regular basis. Now I will. THANKS!
