Default Little Changes, Big Results

I would like to have a thread what personal changes YOU made today (or this week) to better yourself! I really believe if we make small changes, often, it will make a BIG impact on our lives!

Mine:
Today I began using honey instead of sugar in my sun tea. I have been making a gallon of sun tea (green tea and black) twice a week to drink. I had been cutting back the sugar over the last year and got it down to 3T/gallon. As of now I am putting in 2T honey instead. Honey is better for you (has B vitamins and other trace vitamins) and also I was told to have some LOCAL honey daily to help alleviate my allergies.

Yesterday I had my husband buy me a (purple!) bike helmet, so now there is no real reason I can't get out some every day on my bike for exercise. This is an important (though small) change, because I really do not like walking, and I hate running, and it's easy to find excuses for not doing a cardio workout when I don't like the available activities.

I moved my jog time to the morning. It's hot, hot, hot and humid this week, and I know if I don't get the jog done in the morning when it is cooler, I won't do it.

The week has only just begun, so I have some leeway here, right?

One thing I've been doing the last few weeks is trying to park further away from wherever it is I'm going. It's not as easy now that the weather is getting sooo hot, but I'm trying to keep it up. Even walking across the parking lot is better than parking right by the front door.

This is a bit silly but I quit adding cheese to my sandwiches to decrease calories.

I think the leaving off cheese thing is a great example of how something LITTLE can make a BIG difference. It all adds up, crazycurls!

Great changes guys, keep it up!

None of those changes seem silly to me, more walking, less chemicals being drank, less fat on the sandwich, making it more convenient to exercise. All good.

As for me I am drinking more water. Kind of got away from that for a while, too easy to grab a soda.

I make my meals ahead of time. If the meal is already made and portioned out then all I have to do is grab something when I'm hungry.

I don't stand in front of the fridge or cupboard trying to decided what to eat...if I can't make a decision in 30 seconds I grab some water instead and come back when I have a better idea of what I want.

Mommie27, that's a wonderful idea of just getting some water and coming back when you know what you want. I am going to start doing that cause alot of the time, I will just stand there and ponder on what I want.

Not silly at all! A couple months ago I stopped buying a parking pass at the garage downtown where the trolley picks up passengers for free and brings them across the bridge. Now I park half a mile from my building where there's no trolley service and walk to and from every day. It adds a mile to my cardio every day, and it saves me $15 a month.

I know this one is weird but I have organized the songs on my IPod so that I stay energized when I am working out.... I have a pretty good idea of when I start to lag on the treadmill or crossramp - so I checked out the time on my songs and arranged them so at about the 35 minute mark, I have 3 or 4 really super upbeat/fast tempo/lots of bass type songs that really keep me going for the last part of my cardio.

Also - I have started finding Mediterranean recipes that sound good and have started making them - lots of veggies and fruits and if it seems like it calls for quite a bit of oil - I have been cutting it in half and it all has turned out really tasty.

It may not seem like much - but - every little bit is supposed to count.

All of you are making such great changes. I am going to adapt some of the changes to my life. Thanks for the ideas.

I have started going to bed earlier every night. I have heard that getting enough sleep helps with weight loss. I had been staying up until about 3am every night. Each night I am going to bed a little earlier than the night before. Last night I got to bed by 11pm. I am hoping to be getting in bed by 10pm in the next week or two.
