I googled sugar free bbq sauce recipes and didn't come up with much. There were some that called for the addition of Diet Cola. Those aren't necessarily phase 1 friendly. I checked the South Beach cookbook, and it looked great. Not too many ingredients. I made it and it tastes pretty good, not exactly like regular bbq sauce, so I might add a little liquid smoke.
Here is the recipe in case anybody else is interested:
# 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
# 2 tablespoons white vinegar (possibly sub. apple cider vinegar if phase 1 friendly?)
# 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
# 1 teaspoon mustard powder
# 2 teaspoons chopped parsley
# 1/4 teaspoon salt
# 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
# 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
It has a really nice, fresh flavor. It should be great on grilled chicken. I'll let you know how it goes. Even hubs likes it
