Angry I have to ask -

I am not sure if this is related to getting older of if it's just me - lately (probably for at least over a year, I am not really sure when it started), before my TOM starts, I am spotting slightly. But it drives me crazy because the spotting can start a full week before the actual period starts. This particular time, the spotting started on Sunday ..... today is Thursday and the "big event" is not here yet.
Anybody else with the same problem?

I'm in my late 40's and have had that happen-that is, when TOM actually decides to get here instead of skipping a month or two and scaring me to death!lol

Oh yes, mine are just sooo unreliable now. Hmmm ... maybe 4 years?? Early, late ... eight months one time. I thought I was free and bought all this amazing underwear.

Horrible old dark blood in one gush -or- pink spotting for days -or- cramps and nothing else. You name it.

Just make sure your doc knows. We rehash this conversation every year at my physical.

It is such fun getting older! I've stayed very consistent in when I get it, but I've started getting cramps again. What?? Why?? And the week before, my breasts hurt so much. Oh the joys....

Well, I'm 45 and still on the pill and it happens to me--usually for a day or two or up to a week on the week prior to TOM. Sometimes I blame the cyclical pill and it not having quite enough medication that week. Sometimes I blame myself for sleeping in on the weekend and being an hour or two late taking the darn pill. Sometimes I just wonder if its part of aging. I'm going to talk to my doctor about it at my yearly exam (July/August).

Susan you may have just saved me - It's been 18 months since the last "for real deal" so I was planning a trip to Victoria's Secret. Maybe I'll just hit Target one more time

Thanks for the reminder, I will mention it at my next physical. I do think I already did (last year) but it won't hurt to say it again.
Otherwise, I cannot complain - after decades of very heavy bleeding my periods got very bearable (can't really say when it happened, I think it was gradual). So the spotting, no matter how annoying, is still better than fast onset followed by a small version of Niagara Falls.

Nice underwear on hold. :-)

I have the exact same thing. I also tend to spot during the middle of my cycle. My dr said that is when im ovulating. I may spot for a day or so then about a week and a half later I will start spotting again and it may go on for a few days before I actually start heavy. Im 44 and hoping to be done with this mess in a few more years.

I'm 48 and having my second heavy period of the month.
Ys, am also spotting way before. Absolutely hate it. Thought it was supposed to taper off and go away!

In perimenopausal women, a decline in progesterone production is often to blame for breakthrough bleeding and spotting.

Hi, I just found this thread. I'm someone who is afraid of going to the doctor (don't know what scary thing he will find) so I generally ask other women friends if they have similar symptoms. I'm 47, definitely have been skipping months. But also, i've started sprouting hairs on my chin! I figure this is due to less estrogen. Does this happen to any of you?

Avi, please go see the doctor, it's just good to have regular checkups!

An excess of androgens in females can cause unusual hair growth.

Avi, it is most likely a drop in estrogen, as you mentioned. It's not unusual for women to have chin hairs as they approach/enter menopause.

I'm not spotting, but after being very regular (27.5 days since I was 12), I've increased in frequency in the last year or so (like, 22 days - ugh) and flowing like a spring river. I've also begun getting migraines around my TOM. However, this current month, no bleeding, just migraine and extreme light sensitivity for a week. Not quite sure what to expect at this point

Just keep telling myself... this too shall pass!
