Default anybody else feel sick when running in the morning?

Both me and my husband can't run in the morning. I can do other exercises, like the eliptical and weights... but I can't run. I feel like I'm gonna puke. Anybody else get this?

Are you running on a full stomach? An empty one? How long after you awake are you running? Have you had any coffee beforehand? Are you able to run at other times of the day, just not in the morning?
I don't have any issues with running in the morning. If my aim is to run first thing in the morning, I drink one cup of coffee before going out, as I find that caffeine aids in my performance. If I will be up for a couple of hours beforehand, I'll eat some protein and carbs (heavier on the carbs) for energy prior to the run.
I wonder if part of this issue comes down to level of exertion. You mention that you can do the elliptical machine in the morning with no problem -- do you feel you're pushing yourself as hard on the elliptical as you do when you run?

I eat breakfast before running, but it's light- Slimfast shake and 2 hard boiled eggs.

I can't eat before running in the morning either...I need to wait at least an hour after eating (even something small) before heading out or I feel ill and cramp up. I especially can't have liquids before (or during) running because it makes me cramp up horribly.

I enjoy a morning run though and the anticipation of a yummy breakfast waiting for me when I get back is an extra bit of motivation to run faster lol.

I'm with Lyria. Running in the morning has to be on an empty stomach. I've tried having a yogurt or banana but I always find myself cramping or feeling miserable. Coffee and water, then a run, then breakfast!

I like oatmeal before I run, without milk in it. I find that anything dairy (yogurt, cereal with milk, etc) makes me feel gross when I run.

I think that might be the problem right there... When I run first, first thing in the morning, let's say 30 minutes from waking I do not eat, only have coffee and out the door I go... but if I wait 2+ hours then I eat then run about 30 minutes later... The Slimfast shake may be doing it to you too, oatmeal and some egg whites would be a better choice IMHO...

I run on coffee, maybe half a serving of oatmeal (1/4 c dry) if I'm really hungry. If I tried to run on slimfast and eggs I'd be seeing them again before the end of the run.

Me too!

I thought I was just the weird one!

It just takes the slightest bit of food in the morning to get my stomach turned upside down when running. I find that I run my best on an empty stomach -- and then eat. It tends to be so bad that I have to wait somewhere around four hours before I start exercising, even in the evenings!

I can't run in the mornings either, food or no food. Food definitely makes it worse. But running first thing in the morning just makes me feel icky. I can't really describe it. I usually wait a couple of hours after eating to get my workout on.
