flavor packets
I have been using the la peach tea flavor packets. Can you use other packets besides la's. Example: sugar free Kool aid packets.

Not sure what the koolaid packets have in them so I'm not sure. Splenda just came out with some flavor packets for water (takes two for a 20 oz bottle). I didn't buy them because they were pretty expensive. I've never used LAs so not sure how they compare.

I just try to compare the Nutrition label of LA's products with the similar products in the grocery store. If it is pretty close then I buy the cheaper version!

You should be able to use the crystal lite packets.

Question?
My center and the one my parents both used told them if you add anything to the water, then you cannot count it toward you 64oz water consumption.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?? Because if you can count it, it opens up a whole avenue of what you can count in water consumption.

I think is so ridiculous. I have heard some centers say that too. Really, I would not count coffee, pop, or juice toward water consumption. But water with a crystal lite packet counts in my book!

I understand the sentiment, and it is not that I don't agree with you (I actually do), but what is your reasoning behind this thinking?
For example, my husband swears up and down that he should be able to count unsweetened Ice Tea, since it is mostly just "flavored water", what does it matter what it is flavored with is his philosophy.
Just trying to get people's reasons for either counting it or not counting it.

Kelly - I think the difference is the caffeine.

To me, the caffeine is the difference. On pop, it is so dehydrating that it cannot count as water.

Ahhh.. But you see, there's a secret chemical in the flavor packets that turns the water into a substance that instead of flushing your system, coats your stomach so that it retains the water..
Bwhahahahahahahahha! It's a conspiracy I tell you...
Ok.. It's obvious that I've had too much caffine today...
I honestly think it's more of a mental thing, as in a way to make sure you get all your water in... I would go and ask my doctor or a certified nutricionist to get a professional answer.. In fact, a friend of mine is a nutricionist, so I will ask her...

I use flavor packets called Water Sensations - I use about half in a 16 oz water bottle. It's the only way I can get all my water in. I just can't take plain water. My personal favorite is the grape. They are about $3.50 for 20 packets. There's no sugar, salt - just flavor.
Also, add lemon juice for flavor too.

I use Crystal Lite or The Nestea (with splenda) ones from time to time and it hasn't made a noticable difference in my weight loss. I do try not to have more than one a day but only because they all have sweetner in them which gives me migraines if I'm not careful. So I still usually get most of my water in anyways.

Caffeine is not nearly as dehydrating as diet myths would suggest. My mother was hospitalized with water poisoning (drinking only about a gallon of liquids per day) because she wasn't counting her coffee as water. The kidney specialist that was called in told her that caffeinated beveraged definitely do "count" and pointed out that many people drink only coffee and if the dehydration myth were true they would die within a few days (they don't). At worst 8 ounces of strong coffee (if you're not a coffee drinkier) might be equal to say 6 - 7 ounces of water, but if you drink caffeinated beverages regularly, very little if any water is lost at all, and you should count them as water.
Most people don't have to worry about drinking "too much" water especially if they don't down quarts in the course of a few minutes. However, if you're on any blood pressure medications or other medications that can affect your electrolyle levels or kidneys, have any kidney issues, or are on a very low sodium diet, you may be at risk for water poisoning, and should ask your doctor how much is too much.
