Default Unusual cravings?

Hi guys!

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this question but I figured it was about time I introduced myself to this forum since I've been lurking for quite a while. This forum has helped me so much in my weight loss journey so I wanted to pose this question to you all.

Are any of you having cravings for food that aren't part of your normal "cravings"? For example, for the last week I've been CRAVING oreo cookies. Now, I can count on probably one hand the amount of oreo cookies I've eaten in my life. I've just never been a really big fan of them-sweets aren't my downfall (I'm a pizza and cheeseburger kind of girl). But for the last three weeks I've been eating very well and in just the last couple of days all I want are oreos. These damn oreos are all I can think about!

Has anyone else noticed unusual cravings for things they don't normally crave? Just thought it was an interesting observation. Thanks!

All the time. My cravings bounce around. Sometimes it's salty stuff like chips or french fries. Sometimes it's sweets like donuts or the evil Swedish fish.

I get cravings like that every now and then that are like yours, for stuff I rarely every ate. It's like WTF?

Although I used to get the WEIRDEST cravings before I lost weight during my TOM. I would want chocolate. VERY BADLY. I would cave and go to the vending machine, I would HAVE MY MONEY OUT, ready to put in the machine, see the chocolate in there and say "ew gross, I don't want chocolate anymore." I never quite understood that. Luckily I don't get cravings like THAT anymore.

I actually just ended my TOM when I usually do crave chocolate (like a mad woman!) so maybe that has something to do with it as well. Well at least I know I'm not alone!

I never crave anything BUT weird food. I want that mushy rectangle school pizza, Danish shortbread cookies and an entire cake right now. Plus a can of whipped cream. I wouldn't list any of those things in my top 5 things to eat. but I have some unusual urge for those foods at the moment. Other times? Spicy fries. Usually they are foods from my childhood that I would eat for the memories, not the taste.

I mentioned somewhere that I was suddenly getting chocolate cravings and they mentioned that it could be a magnesium deficiency. Could this be it?

Not sure LeilaJey. I've noticed in the past as well that when I diet and eat healthy I start to crave sweets-which I never craved when I was eating badly. I'm just gonna chalk it up to my body just trying to adjust to this new lifestyle.

Once I saw a chart where it listed what food you craved and what you were deficient in, I think its worth trying to see if it will help stop the cravings, but I know for the most part for me it was just cause I missed my daily jar of Nutella just cause it was DELISH.

Mashed potatoes and gravy. But maybe that's not so weird?

haha! I guess we have to figure out what's a legitimate craving and what's just a 'that's delicious' kind of thing. Like I'm definitely not deficient in cake and biscuits. Or am I?

Although I hardly ever crave chocolate now and I've been eating more nuts and seeds (which I never ate before) so maybe it does have something to do with magnesium. I eat a tiny bit of dark chocolate when I really need a hit.

I don't generally get a lot of cravings, but when I do it is for something VERY specific, not just a general "Bread" or "Chocolate". I'll want a specific kind of pizza from one particular branch of a chain, or one cookie I had 12 years ago and haven't seen since. It's very vivid!

I tend to have cravings in weird cycles that last for about a week. I've had craving cycles of eating peanut butter every day and on anything, jam, bread, custard-y type foods (popovers, dutch pancakes, etc...very weird)

Here's the cravings chart btw. I dunno how accurate it is though! http://i.imgur.com/9GxYe.jpg

That was interesting to see that they put alcohol, tobacco and marijuana on there! Really?!

I'm craving watermelon like crazy this week. Definitely stopping at the grocery store on my way home today to try and get one. At least I'm craving something healthy.

I get cravings for random stuff all the time. Today I'm craving pop tarts. I haven't eaten pop tarts in probably 7 or 8 years. But I would give anything for a pop tart right now.

A couple days ago I wanted fajitas. Chicken fajitas. I gave in, but I managed to make it healthy, with lots of veggies and all that.

And every month, without fail, during TOM I will crave a big juicy cheeseburger. I will crave a cheeseburger until I can't take it anymore. No amount of iron in anything else generally works. Trust me, I've tried stuffing my face with spinach. But the rest of the month I can do without hamburgers or cheeseburgers.

Normally I crave orange juice, mac and cheese and grapefruit juice.

I hate cravings. I'm sitting at my desk right now and I just keep going back to pop tarts. It doesnt help that I'm pretty sure the vending machines where I work have them. Yikes.
