I LOVE king cake! I live in Canada now but I'm from the Gulf Coast and miss Mardi Gras. I have a serious weakness for king cake though, so maybe being away is a good thing...

When i first saw this thread I thought "is that like King Crab season?" and had visions of people going out in boats in terrible conditions to bake and eat cakes :/

I love that there are a few people on here from Louisiana! I lived there all my life (up until last year). Last Feb my cousin mailed me a king cake unexpectedly...not sure if he will do the same this year. If so, I'll try and do better about sharing it. But OMG it's soooooo good....

King Cake is the first thing that you see when you walk in the grocery stores in my area in Louisiana. I turn my head and walk the other way. I don't want to be tempted. LOL

Oh man, my boss just came back from Baton Rouge this afternoon with TWO king cakes. Now they're just sitting on the desk. Staring at me. LOL

We had a praline king cake at work this week (hence why I started this thread) also!
I'm think towards the end I will buy one, eat only 1 slice, and bring the rest to work!

King cakes are sooooo DELICIOUS!!! My dad brought one back when he went to home to New Orleans a couple of weeks ago. Being from New Orleans, I remember King Cake parties every friday during mardi gras season at school . Its so hard to eat just one slice.

i was in mobile alabama for mardi gras about 3 years ago.
king cake.
MMMMMMM
Just thinking about it, makes me want to hop on over down south and get me some king cake.
don't deprive!
but rather limit.
can you have a little tiny sliver?
im not sure how often you used to eat it, but lets say if you used to have a slice every day from now until mardi gras before (i believe it's feb 21st?? this year??) but yea, instead of having a slice every day, have a regular slice once a week?
or like, measure out what 100 cal- or something acceptable in your plan is, and have a bit of that at set intervals?
this way you won't binge out on it!

I think I might be the only one that finds that utterly repulsive. Then again, I just don't like overly sweet things....so...

The bread is like a cinnamon roll. It can come plain or with fillings like strawberry, cream cheese, blueberry cream cheese... The icing can vary. It can be thin glaze or a thicker creamy icing with those colored little sugar crystals.

I generally don't deprive, but it is a trigger food for me. I do best when it is not in the house at all. I may get some a little later in the season and have a tiny slice and bring the rest to work. I can control myself for a day, but if it is the house for longer it will all be in my belly quick. Maybe next year will be better for that!
