i don't think she is necessarily overestimating her calories (and honestly, i'm a bit sick of everyone sprouting up with that answer every time a question like this comes up) ... i mean sure, she may be, but also she may not. it's not just about how many calories you eat, but it's about what you eat and the combinations of how you eat it... i won't pretend to be a diet guru, but i do know that different things work for different people. i was calorie-counting for a long time (accurately) and exercising and not losing any weight last summer and it sucked. when i switched to a diet that was focused on specific foods over calorie amounts, i started losing weight.

different strokes for different folks

(and sorry if i sound annoyed, but when I was having that no loss problem, people were like "you're just over-estimating!!!" and i wasn't and it really p*ssed me off... so... sorry! lol)

Wow...I've always heard that it didnt matter what you ate, only calories mattered. That's a decent theory though. Hmmm what specific foods worked for you?

I think it's a combo of everything. I'm probably overestimating, gaining muscle from all the exercise, and eating the wrong types of food. My plan is to count a lot more carefully/eat foods that are easier for me to count. And also switch around my food groups to include a lot more veggies. I'm going to continue to skip lunch just because it makes my life easier.

Thanks for all the advice! It's so ridiculously frustrating when you're trying and not getting anything accomplished.

Kara: i'm not doubting the math, i'm pretty sure it works most of the time, but i'm just saying it's not failproof.

see, the first time i did calorie counting, i lost a lot of weight, bout 20lbs. then i stopped. stalled for a bit, and gained a bunch back. when i tried it again, i was doing the EXACT SAME THING, eating the EXACT SAME FOODS (believe, in japan, there aren't that many diet food options...) and working out the same and the weight refused to come off. i have no idea why.

but anyways, let's just agree to disagree. actually, every single diet out there (and lots of official research) contradict each other, as far as what is right and what isn't, so saying "this is the absolute undeniable truth" is impossible. imo.

kelly: yeah, i'd heard that too when i was doing it. but apparently not. I'm doing a slow-carb diet at the moment... basically eating only meat, eggs, veggies and beans. and i don't have to calorie-count and can eat as much as i want of the allowed foods. for me, it works really well. i dunno if it'll work for you, but i think the important thing to remember is that: if it doesn't work, change something. try something new and figure out what works for you.
