TOM weight?

  • I know it's normal to gain weight around your TOM. Since last week though, I've put on 6lbs My period started monday, and is pretty much over today. I'm eating really good, drinking a ton of water and tea, and have only slipped up on my diet with 2 bites of a brownie and half of a coke all week. I've also been doing a ton of cardio as well as gardening and everything. So when is this going to come off? I really don't have my period often so I don't know whats really normal for my body. I just hate seeing that number on the scale when I've worked so hard to be back down. My stomach was pretty flat too and is now like a beach ball, and none of the jeans I bought saturday fit. It's getting frustrating..
  • I don't have an answer for you, but I just wanted to give you a for support. Sometimes our bodies are just weird. Best thing, in my experience, is to stay on plan and trust that eventually our bodies will get the message.
  • Yeah, when TOM comes around for me I feel like I've put on all the weight I've lost! It bumps me up at least 5 or 6 pounds. I try to stay off the scale 2 days before, during, and 2 days after.
  • I don't have any suggestions for changing your diet since you seem to be doing well. I usually try to avoid salty foods, because if I eat even a handful of french fries I bloat like no one's business. Serious beach ball happening. Just don't get discouraged as it really is out of your control at some point!
  • Ignore ignore ignore. TOM weight doesn't count. I don't weigh myself for about a week before or else I go insane.

Bodybuilders and trainers comment on this all the time. I've read lots of articles where they remind women that with hormone fluctuations, your weight just goes nuts and not to worry. So, chin up, and those 6+ do not exist!
  • I hate weighing myself while on my period I get all bloated and ugh! I totaly agree with bleujean! Kick aunt flow in the *** dont let her bring you down!
  • I shouldn't do it but I do lol Last month I gained absolutely nothing, silly me I thought it was the start of something new and wonderful. This month i'm up 2.
  • I finally lost it all plus 1 lb about 3 days after my period. But now I'm postop and I've gained 10lbs already since yesterday and look 5 months pregnant. *facepalm*
  • Ugh... TOM weight. I say ignore!! I always have problems around this time too, but just remind yourself that it's not you, or your diet, but your body being a rebellious woman.
  • I never take my weigh-ins seriously when it's close to TOM. I usually weigh more before/during TOM, but I weigh significantly less than my actual weight a few days after. Wait till the period monster passes, give yourself at least a good 3 days after it's gone, then see where you're at.
  • TOM is very hard!
  • TOM is VERY frustrating!! i gain like 4 lbs every time! i still weigh myself daily and on the chart write next to it 'TOM' so i know its not true weight. it takes like 3500 to 4000 calories to make one true pound of fat, just remember that also drinking lots of water seems to help me alot
  • Regarding "normal" periods--I didn't start getting those until I started eating well and exercising regularly on my last journey. I have endometriosis, and being healthy makes the pain so much less severe and my periods much more manageable. But back to the subject--I agree with everyone else--just ignore TOM weight!!!
  • i say ignore it. if you weigh yourself during TOM you'll see an increase in weight. however if you wait a couple of days after its passed you'll see your true weight and it'll probably be a much lower. =]
  • I agree that you should ignore it. I actually just lost 3lbs at my TOM though.. maybe I'm defective?
