Crazy size charts
Today I was looking at the jeans size chart on gap.com, just out of curiosity/boredom. According to their charts, I should wear a size 6 based on my hip and thigh measurements, and an 18 based on my waist measurement. Now I am a slight apple shape, but this was just a little ridiculous.
I found this kind of humorous and wanted to share. Anyone else experience this?
By the way, I am comfortably in a size 12 Gap jean right now, and can wear a 10, though they're still a little more snug than I care for. I am nowhere near a 6 or an 18 though!

My problem is more in shirts than pants. Since I'm not an apple, but have a large bust, I find that either things are too tight across the chest or billow at the bottom as though I should be pregnant. Very frustrating when you're trying to look professional!

btw ive had that happen when i was pregnant and looking for nursing bras. i measure myself and it told me to buy size 42D??? when in fact a 38 was perfect around my chest, and D was waaaay too small of a cup, i needed DDD!!!! ugh frustrating, bc i did order online, good thing i went with my gut and ordered one size up around the chest, and 2 cups up from my prepregnancy bra size.

My problem with jeans is always my thighs. I have big thighs. I usually have to settle for pants that are tight at the legs and a little loose at the waist. I end up with a little kangaroo pouch on my tummy.
As for ordering clothes online. I have never been brave enough to do that.

i find this wherever i go. I have lost close to 25 pounds and i still wear the same jeans i did before losing weight. I just go by whatever fits, as I've given up trying to decided what this size i should be in.

We have the exact opposite problem! I have a gut, but relatively thin thighs. So when I get a pair to fit around my stomach, they're too baggy around the legs... Dress pants have always been the worst, and make me look 20lbs heavier. It would be nice to afford a tailor for everything...

I am actually more of a pear than an apple, but size charts still throw me off like crazy. For whatever reason, they always seem to assume a 10-11 inch difference between the waist/hip and I have about a 9 inch difference between the two. So in Gap petite, I am supposedly a size 12 in the waist, size 4 in the chest and size 6 in pants. If I were to actually try on a size 12 jacket, it would be way too big - everywhere. My real current size is typically around a size 6-8 (top) and size 8 (bottom), but it really depends on the style. Which results in me bringing 2 or 3 sizes of everything into the change room... pretty annoying.

This is hysterical! According to the size chart, I'm a size 6 waist, size 12 hip, and size 14 thigh (pear shape much??). And I know that at Gap, I wear a 10.
In comparison, my BF went shopping for pants the other day, tried on one pair (too small), automatically knew he needed the next size up, and got 3 pairs of all different styles pants in that brand without trying that size on at all. Because guys' sizes go by measurements. What a world!

Ugh, size charts, especially for gap/old navy etc are horribly, horribly off. I'm in a size 12 there last time I check but according to their pants size chart I'm size 12 in the thigh, size 14 by my hips, and size 16 in my waist. However, size 14's fall off of my waist (and I don't buy the argument that it's because they fall lower than my natural waist because I have a nice little pot belly thanks to pregnancy so the largest part of my waist is 38" while my natural waist is 34", a pretty big difference!) so I have a feeling that the gap size chart is just messed up AND they put a lot of spandex in those pants anyways.

I have the same problem. I have found some shirts at lane bryant that fit nice but in general i have a hard time finding tops and it's frustrating because see all these cute one piece dresses and of course the bottom fits but either can't fit the top part or i'm spilling out of it! i've been getting button up tops and leaving it open with a t strap shirt underneath.
