Default Aerial Yoga

Being able to do this is one of my goals once I get down some weight.

I had signed up for a class here, Detroit Fly House, a few months back thinking it would be cool. I went to one class and never went back. It was very cool, but I had zero upper body strength and even the beginner class required alot of it.

Has anyone ever done anything like this? I love alternative physical things like this.

Here's some pictures from their website (advanced class stuff):

That looks so freaking awesome! I wouldnt worry about the upper strength thing, use it as motivation! I remember trying yoga out aaaaaaages ago, just what they show on tv, I was like "pfft yoga's easy" and then I just about died 5 minutes in xD I would totally just go and enjoy myself! I'm tempted to see if theres anything like that near me!

Oh my gosh - they're teaching a workshop at a dance festival I'm attending this coming weekend and I've been trying to decide whether I'm bad*** enough to do it or not!

After seeing the pictures, though, I think the verdict is a resounding no...

Dude, even if those are the advanced students, I'm still not sure I have the upper body strength for the beginning moves

And yep, I've been dancing for about 7 years now. Who do you take class with in Detroit? I grew up around Ann Arbor and know most of the teachers out there.

She's a dancer, Abida Blaze. She's been teaching for 3 or 4 years I think. I take lessons at her home. Mostly fusion type stuff. She was taught my Lana of Detroit Belly Dance.

Ooh, too funny! I used to dance with Unveiled Dance Company in A2 and they're hosting a big workshop with Lana this weekend. Detroitraqs.com - it's in A2, but if you're free, you should check it out. It's going to be awesome

Oh is that this weekend?! I just may have to! I've seen Unveiled perform not too long ago. I think it was all student performances and i missed the teachers perform. I had looked into classes there, to have added practice throughout the week but they don't have any that fit my schedule.

You should definitely check it out - Unveiled puts on a good party And if you're looking for more classes to take, I think Kendra of Unveiled recently started teaching in Detroit. She's studied with Madiha and tons of other people and is flipping fantastic, although I'm not sure when, where or what levels she's teaching. She's on Myspace - www.myspace.com/bailarose - and I think she has links there to the classes she's teaching (stupid work internet filters won't let me check )
