Being a skinny bridesmaid

  • Hey everyone. Just started the blog tonight. I have a long road ahead to loose 80 lbs. by July 2010. I am in my cousin's wedding (she is like a sister to me) and all of the other bridesmaids are a size 2,4, or 6. I want to be proud of myself that day. I am looking for all advice. Should I keep 6.5 lbs. a monthly goal? So begins my journey...
  • I think that sounds like an excellent goal and that you are setting yourself up FOR SUCCESS. Good luck! What is your blog url?
  • Welcome and good luck. You have a year to meet your goal. I woulsn't set a definite amount to lose each week. Some months you will lose more, some months , less. It is hard to predict what ouir bodies will do ,two pounds a week are about average,If you have a food and exercise plan you should be able to do it.
  • A very do-able goal. That being said, you will lose more (hopefully) at first and it is very likely that you will lose slower at the end. My last several months the weight loss slowed dramatically.

And - don't forget that your fittings will be well ahead of the wedding.
So - make your plan and don't "cheat" or slack off if you lose weight more quickly. Bargoo is right - just stick to your plan, and don't worry about how much weight you lose each month.

    You CAN do this!
Keep us posted on your progress.
  • I'm glad to see you have set a reasonable goal! You've got some good motivation and looking great is only one of the many benifits of losing weight, so good for you!

Make sure you keep yourself on track because 80 pounds in a year is doable, but less time really isn't enough time to make sure you reach your goal. Hope to see you around the forums a lot!

Welcome to 3FC, the chicks here are all really great.
  • I'm in the same boat! I'm a bridesmaid in my friends wedding Septemeber of '10. I'm not losing weight specifically for her wedding.. I just want to look hot by then! Mainly because she and another bridesmaid were looking at bridesmaid dresses and the one they liked she said "wouldn't look good on me" .. So I just want to look hot in spite of that comment.. hahaha.. Good luck, I know you'll do great
  • nik, tou have over a year. I'll bet you will be hot and make them eat their words !

I'm with Leah, I'm glad you set yourself a reasonable goal. Some people set lofty goals like, "I'm going to be a size 2 in 7 months," without ever recognizing that some people will simply never healthily fit into a size 2... and that you can't know how much weight you'd have to lose to ever reach that goal!

6.5 lbs a month is a fantastic goal. But don't be too hard on yourself if one month you rock the boat and lose 8, and the next you only lose 4.5! Everyone's body is different and plateaus at a different time, so just remember not to beat yourself up.
  • Good luck! You can DO it!
  • 6.5lbs a month sounds like a reasonable monthly goal. Just be careful to stay committed and discipline cause these count more than motivation...
  • If I could do one thing it would be to go back and lose all the weight for my best friend's wedding. I was the Maid of Honor and I looked like a blimp next to the other girls. Take it from someone who has been there, do it! You have a goal and a lot of people supporting you, good luck!
  • You can do it!!! I know how you feel, because I will hopefully be getting married in a year or so, and I do not want to be up there worrying about how my arms look, if people are looking at my fat roll, etc!! I think 6.5 pounds a month is do-able, definitely a challenge, but you are motivated and you can lean on all of us! We can do it!
  • Oh girl I am with you! I actually am a bridesmaid in February, again in March, and my own wedding is next July! I am not losing weight specifically for any of these things, but once I found out about them, that gave me that much more motivation to stay strong and eat the best foods possible.
  • Good luck! depending on where you go for bridesmaids dresses, you might be able to wait until a couple of months before the wedding to get it, which gives you the opportunity to lose more for the big day.
