I'm Not Hungry But I Am
Warning: this is a rant!
I'm trying to tell myself that I'm not hungry right now. I'm really not but for some reason I am!! I just finished eating (about 10 minutes ago) a decent sized bowl of roast chicken, cous cous and vegetables.....yet here I am sitting here wanting to eat more!!! I wasn't starving to begin with (I had a bowl of cereal about an hour and a half ago) and what I just ate really was a decent sized serving. So why am I having to fight myself so hard not to walk into the kitchen and get something else to eat!
So yeah, I'm here right now ranting about this to basically keep myself occupied and out of the kitchen. I seem to have this problem often....just finished eating and feeling the need to eat more just because I'm craving a different flavor or I'm bored or who knows why. This happen to you too?

This happens to me too sometimes. Lat night after dinner I was so hungry even thought my stomach didn’t feel empty I just wanted MORE to eat. I had to fight with myself all night not to eat more. I made myself some herbal tea, which usually helps when I am not satisfied after a meal, but that didn't even cut it last night.

That may be what I call "food lag". Have you eaten fast, by chance? Sometimes it can take even more than the recommended 20 minutes for the mind to register that the stomach isn't hungry anymore.

I've had this problem. I can eat a filling meal, and not be hungry, as far as my stomach, and yet still feel the urge to eat, it will just pop in my head that I could eat something and there it is, hanging over my head. It really irritates me, I can deal with feeling hungry when I haven't eaten, that makes sense, but already having all my calories for the day and my stomach satisfied should be enough to let me get by. I think part of it is food commercials on tv. Maybe I need to start recording my shows and fast-forwarding thru the temptations.

This happens to me atleast four nights a week....especially if I've made pulled pork or something really yummy that I don't make often. Just because I am bored or awake or there are yummy leftovers, I want to eat. But I'm not hungry.

yes! I sometimes feel like that too... It doesn't always seem to matter how satisfying the meal was, I still have this weird 'hungry' feeling... sometimes I wonder if I just need to burp or something. I find that if I distract myself in a project or cleaning the house or something, it goes away and I forget about it.

Yea, this happens to me too. I make a tall glass of water or maybe do some type of exercise.

This often happens to me after lunch. What I've started doing is having a "dessert" to finish the meal in my mind. A sweet apple or pear, or a 1 or 2 pt WW bar. That's helped me put a period at the end of that eating. I've started doing the same for my dinners, and am finding that it is also helping.

my issue isn't feeling hungry after i eat, but the NEED to have something sweet. I cannot cut desserts out no matter how hard I try. I HAVE to have something sweet or my meal is not complete and it nags at me.
No one EVER eats dessert because their hungry..so why must I eat it?
one of my daily goals i no junk (ie cookies, cake, candy) and there is like 23109283091823lbs of chocolate at my house from valentines day...gah.

I sometimes feel this way but I think my problem is I actually still feel hungry even though I just ate a whole plate of food. It usually happens about 15-30 minutes after I eat. I am starting to think it's just gas and bubbles that make me feel that way as it happens after I eat broccoli most of the time.

YES! That is what I am saying! LOL! Like a big belch or you-know would set me straight...
illbehotoneday: Would a peice of hard candy after a meal help? They are sweet like a dessert, but only like 10 calories...?

Yes! I have to do that too. And on a positive note I've developed the habit of having a piece of fruit with lunch just about every day as a result.
That said, I still struggle with the "not hungry anymore but still wanna eat" thing on a regular basis. Sometimes I think each meal just reminds me how much I love to eat! Like the others said, water, tea, or something distracting works most of the time to settle things down.

I have a professor for this one class, and I walked into his room while he was eating his lunch and there was this shiny red apple on it. I mean, this guy is generally very likeable anyway, so the apple on the desk was just...cute...
so I said, "how teachery!" and he said, "I eat an apple every day. I find it really rounds out a meal."
He was just so matter-of-fact about it, but basically, the man was craving sweets, too. He just went about it with a nice, shiny red apple. Lesson learned, teach!

Funny enough, I am going through not being hungry/ wanting something to eat feeling right now and I am using your blog as a distraction. I slipped up and grabbed a bag of famous amos cookies and ate one mini cookie, felt kinda guilty, thought the cookie was to sweet and gave the rest of the bag away. Now I want my cookies back and/or a caramel candy that is sitting on the conference table. I am stuck in the office waiting for a client so there is no way for me to distract myself otherwise.
