What color should I dye my hair?
My natural hair color is showing massively right now and I don't like it (it's boring light brown with a tint of red. not my favorite). I could dye it black again since I already bought the black hair dye, but the problem is that every time I dye my hair black, strands of hair keep falling out and it gets messy. Plus, black requires extensive upkeep.
I had my hair dark mahogany brown for quite awhile and thoroughly enjoyed that. The color preservation shampoo works much better for brown than it does for black, too, and my hair falls out less.
I also have thought of doing something wild and going for fire engine red. I've had red hair before and I liked it.
Pink is another option that I've considered. Or maybe black with red highlights or black with red tips.
Any suggestions? Ideas?

I, personally, always wanted to do the black with hot pink/ red tips. I don't think DH would appreciate it though. I'm thinking of changing my hair color too. Currently, I'm dark brown, my natural, which took me forever to get back to. I'm thinking of going dark red but not quite auburn.

Bah! What IS it with all these women being afraid to dye their hair because their husband won't like it? Correction: WHAT'S UP WITH THE HUSBANDS?! I've always wondered why some men are so conservative and so afraid of women donning crazy hairstyles. Crazy hair is HOT! I wonder when they will realize how SEXY it really is

i would go with the mahogany. the only thing i don't like about red is it fads too quickly. and then you're back to redying your hair and causing more damange to it.

I don't like black hair dye -- it never looks real and it it's got a questionable ingredient in it. Even people who have natural black hair, the black dye looks like doll factory color.
I would go with auburn.

Ha! My husband fears seeing hair dye in the house...because he never knows what color hair will come out of the bathroom He and I comprimise though.I will experiment with color(and he wont whine),but keep it long, and he wont shave his head(Oh boy is his head scary!!!).He wants me to try black once, and while I keep thinking about it,I don't think it will look good on me.Someday I may surprise him though I'm partial to auburn and red.
I like your pic...thats the black right? I like it.

Yeah, zoritsa, that pic is me with black hair. It's pretty recent. I like it, too, and it doesn't look all that fake on me because I have a natural looking tan. That's amusing about you and your husband's hair compromises. My s/o and I have those, as well... well... I don't have any for her, as long as she doesn't shave her head bald (she never would anyway, she loooves her pretty long hair), but her rules tend to be: no shaving of the head + no growing it long. She doesn't like long hair, but that's ok; I prefer short hair on myself... more options for styling!
Unlike your husband, I actually look good with a shaved head (well, buzzed, not like Moby bald) seriously, I have a great head shape and can pull it off, but everyone doubts the shaved headed sexiness! That's also ok, because if I did shave my head, I'd miss my hair.
Awesome, SoulBliss.. BURGANDY is a great color... sort of an "all of the above" compromise; I LIKE IT!

Hm, Mahogany is a nice choice...But I would vote for fire engine red!
I tried to dye/ color my hair in that color dozens of times (last try: last Friday), but my brown hair color is stubborn so all I get is a decent shade of red.

KAte, what you need to do is bleach your hair first, then use the red dye. Your hair will be fire engine red then

My favorite is black with huge fire-engine red chunks. It also requires a lot of upkeep, but it looks SO great! I think it would look awesome on you, Nightengale!

Zoritsa: Have you tried doing one of those temporary dyes to see if black is for you? I did once (plain black on me looks horrid!). Thankfully, two good washes a day for three days got all the dye out. A hot-oil treatment after the dye faded was all I needed to counteract all the vigorous washing!

I dye my hair dark red brown and it's perfect - it's gorgeous as long as it stays dark, and even when it fades it turns a beautiful natural looking red. I don't know if that's what you're into but... its great for me b/c its low/no maintenance (read: money).
