Talking Steel Magnolias -- #35

Good Evening, Flowers! It's been a miserably hot, humid, windy day in my neighborhood. We had a kid faint at school today; he'd just gotten out of gym class and keeled over in front of the office. They call the "first responders" over the loud speaker and my stomach did flip flops. That's the first time in 17 years I have ever heard the office call for help. Usually they just get the nurse or her husband who is the guidance counselor/coach/substitute nurse. The kid was fine and claims he is the reason we were dismissed at 1:30 this afternoon. The building has not cooled off one iota -- feels like I'm walking into an oven at 7:30 in the morning.

Susan -- I'm glad to hear that Stan is feeling better. What does "dry weight" mean? Are you getting the new computer for your home or office? You will have to let us know how you like Vista. I've heard some good comments and some not-so-good about it. I'm not very knowledgeable about technology so have no clue one way or the other. An electric quilt sounds interesting . . . similar to an electric blanket?

"Gma" -- Hope you have a wonderful trip! I know you and Jack will enjoy your time away.

I need to do some more laundry. Bob had a meeting at 3 and probably will end up eating supper with the board; they are interviewing new administrators for the nursing home/assisted living/independent apts. tonight. The last guy couldn't keep his pants up (literally) and was dumb enough to use the company computer to send emails to his "friend." He lives (with his wife) right around the corner from us and he has played golf with Bob on numerous occasions. Dumb, dumb, dumb!!!!!!!

Have a terrific Tuesday! Don't forget to !

Jean -- from Iowa!

Thursday's post:

Good morning gals. Well, we are at the 48 hour countdown now! We sat around and watched Las Vegas stuff most of the day yesterday, some of it pretty outdated as some of the restaurants and casinos are either closed or have been imploded. There used to be a casino called Westward Ho that had these huge 3/4 lb hot dogs for 99 cents and they had huge frozen margaritas for the same price. The one show was talking it all up, but the show was dated around 2001 and the casino has already been imploded so no hot dogs or margaritas for anyone anymore! If you want really cheap eats, the lower casinos are the place to go. They do that to draw people in as they can't compete with the mega resorts.

Today is hair and nail and library day along with going to the atm and getting money and then going to the grocery store for something to fix to eat tonight and getting some one dollar bills for tips until we can get into the casino and get change. None of the banks will change money for you here unless you have an account so I have to get change at the customer service desk at the grocery store. I am not driving 25 miles to Millington to the Navy Federal outside the base.

I am pretty caught up on my list and packing too, which is great. Jack is going to try and get comp time for the overtime they didn't pay him for. If he can, he will just take all day off tomorrow and then take 2 hours of sick time. It would be nice for him if he could do that as then he wouldn't have to get up early tomorrow. His dr appt isn't until 11 though we have to leave early to try and find their new offices.

Better hop to it and get chores done and get into the shower. I want to be at the hair salon right when they open.

Hopefully I will get in here tomorrow, but if not, I will talk to you when I get back if I can't get in here while on vacation and send a couple pics.

Faye

I started a thread yesterday morning that Jean must not have seen so I just cut and pasted yesterday's post here. It wouldn't let me delete it so be sure you post to Jean's thread and not mine. Mine should move to page two sometime today.

Jack is dressing for us to go to his cardio appt so thought I would just peek in this morning before we get out and going today. I have already had to drive to the post office because they delivered mail yesterday. I stopped it on Saturday! {{{SIGH}}} I now have a lot of stuff crossed off my lists so we are raring to go.

Susan: Glad Stan is feeling better. My son and Jack don't like the Vista program, but who knows?

Jean: Sorry you didn't see my new thread! lol

Everyone have a great weekend! lolololol I just realized it isn't Friday!

Good morning! A lovely day here in VA and only 80 degrees at 11 am. But HUMID.

Jean, Electric Quilt is computer software to design quilts. I went with Vista because I will keep this computer a long time and after awhile you can't run get new software anymore.

When Stan goes to dialysis he gets weighed and again after treatment before he leaves. The weight he leaves at is his dry weight - after treatment has removed the excess water. When he goes for the next treatment, they compare his incoming weight to his dry weight so they know how much water to remove. No matter what, they can't remove more than 4 liters because that is all the machine is capble of. If they take off too much, it makes blood pressure fall very low, chills, nausea, and horrible thirst. It's a fine line to walk.

Faye, I know you are excited - have a really great time.

Good Evening, Flowers! Another humid day and we got out of school at 1:00. Outside didn't feel quite so bad, but the building never cooled off at night. Several classrooms have no windows or windows that don't open (art room for natural lighting) so it was really miserable for those teachers and students. I like getting out early but don't like the cut in hours. At least we don't have to make the days up at the end of the year. It is finally raining tonight and the cold front is supposed to be here by morning.

"Gma" -- I think I would OD on margaritas for 99 cents! You are all spiffed up with a new "do" and new nails! I'm sorry I didn't see your #35 thread. The #34 was at the top and I just assumed that with 18 posts it was time to start a new thread. I thought it was unusual that you didn't post yesterday. I hope Jack's appt. went ok. Your mail system must be related to our's, and they have the nerve to ask why I don't mail order our meds. They'd probably end up in TN! I know you will have a terrific trip to Vegas!

Susan -- Here I thought Electric Quilt was something for your bed. I do know what Mastercook is! I didn't know that they weigh dialysis patients before and after, but that makes perfect sense now that you have explained it all.

Have a relaxing evening and a wonderful Wednesday tomorrow!

Just a quick note to let you know we got to Vegas just fine. Jack is snoozing as we were up at 3 AM.

Your chuckle for the day. I was more than embarrassed:

We left for Vegas and had just taken off from Atlanta. We were sitting in first class, I took out my knitting (a sweater for my dd for her birthday) and as I pulled the needles out of the ball, it slipped out of my hands, slid between our seats and fell on the floor behind us . The couple behind us were sleeping so when the flight attendent came to ask what we would like to drink I ask him if he could retrieve my ball of yarn and just hand it back over the seat. Welllll, the plane was climbing which caused the yarn to roll underneath the seats all the way back through coach until it ran out of yarn!!!! I ended up having to re-roll the ball just so I could get my yarn back! Not one person noticed this purple ball of yarn rolling between their legs!

See you in a week!

Good Evening, Flowers! It is MUCH cooler in my world tonight . . . supposed to get down to 49 degrees. Talk about a change! They still had the industrial fans going at school today trying to cool the building down even though it did rain last night. One kid even asked if we'd get out early today. That would have been nice.

"Gma" -- Glad to hear you have arrived safely! That is too funny about your ball of yarn! I'm glad no one got it tangled up before you could reroll it! Have a great time! We miss you already!

Have a terrific Thursday tomorrow and remember to SMILE!

Faye, that was definitely my laugh for the day. I can just see the yarn rolling down the aisle. Too bad Jack didn't have a video camera - that would have surely gotten you $10,000 on Funniest Home Videos.

Dell sent me a different monitor (actually better than the one I was supposed to get) so I'll be putting the new computer together over the weekend. Also carrying on with the weeding out process.

It's been down in the 60s at night and very pleasant in the 80s during the day but the darn humidity is till high.

Have a great weekend!

Good Evening, Flowers! Just popping in for a quick "hello" and "good night." I need to eliminate some of the newspaper clutter and then I'm going to bed. For some reason my days have been messed up; yesterday was Thursday all day and today seems like Friday. Don't I wish! It's been another nice cool day in paradise.

Susan -- Our nights are cooling down too. It was 55 degrees when I got up this morning but warmed up to 77 this afternoon. I could tell it was more humid this evening. The weekend is supposed to be nice. I hope you and Stan enjoy the long weekend.

Our anniversary is the 3rd -- #40! Looking back I wonder where the years have gone. Jason will be 34 on the 3rd and that sure doesn't seem possible. Time flies, that's for sure!

Have a fantastic Friday and don't forget to SMILE!

A quick note to wish Jean a Very Happy Anniversary!

Also I hope that Faye is enjoying her stay in Vegas. Stay out of the hot sun, Faye! That was a really funny sight...you rolling up the ball of yarn.

Susan, Wow, it doesn't happen often that they send you a better product than you asked for. Hope it all goes together easily.

Today was a good day for me. That kidney stone that had taken up residence has finally left. I feel like a totally different woman. On Tuesday I see the Dr. for the final word....I hope it is that there are no more stones in my future.

Good Evening, Flowers! The weekend is here . . . finally! I don't know whether to blame the crazy weather or what, but this was a very long week at school. It was a nice day here and the weekend is supposed to be nice all three days. I hope so. Tomorrow we are heading up to MIL's. Our 40th anniversary is Monday as well as Jason's 34th birthday. Jason and family will be there, but Beth and crew are heading to WI to Will's side of the family. Either Sunday or Monday we will load Ian's swing set in the back of the pickup and haul it to Sioux Falls. They finally have grass! It has been sitting on our patio since they moved this spring; I think Ian was afraid he'd never see it again.

Gloria -- Thank you for the anniversary wishes! Looking back I wonder where the time has gone. I'm so glad the kidney stone is no longer with you! That had to be like waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I have laundry going and can hear the dryer buzzing. Have an enjoyable long weekend! Remember to SMILE!

Good Evening, Flowers! We are home from another day "away" and tomorrow we get to stay home! I will have to pick and choose from my 'to do' list because there is NO way I will be able to get it all done. *sigh* We had a nice trip to deliver the swingset although it was hotter there than here. I hate the 2 1/2 hour drive home and have a hard time staying awake, so I usually give up and nap part of the way. I don't like to do that either -- makes me feel guilty, I guess.

Hope you all enjoy a relaxing Monday! It's supposed to be in the 90s here -- I hope that is wrong!

Good Evening, Flowers! It's been a day of Saturday chores for me today. After being gone the last two days it was nice to stay home today. Bob surprised me with ruby/diamond earrings and a necklace to match for our anniversary. We are looking at a different car and I told him that it wasn't necessary to buy me anything this year. What a guy!

Hope all is well with all of you! Have a terrific Tuesday!

Jean - on your 40th. Bob sounds like a keeper! I always say I've been married so long I can't remember how it was to be single.

Gloria, nice to hear from you!

Stan has been doing much better. We went for a drive Sunday to Smithfield and had a scoop of ice cream in the old-fashioned ice cream parlor there then walked around. It's one of those old, old towns that still has a downtown.

Labor Day was dialysis day so that took care of that day. I did laundry and cleaned house.

I've kind of let my diet slide - and gained 4 pounds - lately so I got back on the wagon yesterday. I figure there are 12 weeks until Christmas so I have to get busy so I don't gain more over the holidays.

Good Evening, Flowers! Another hot and muggy day in paradise! We did get out early so that was a plus; everyone was really dragging after the long weekend. Bob went back to his mom's because his brother is here from MT. It sounds like MIL will be going back to MT with him on Sat. and flying to AZ from there. It doesn't seem possible that summer really is over with for all practical purposes.

Susan -- Thanks for the anniversary wishes. I always tell my MIL that I got the pick of the litter! I never was "truly" single because we got married while I was still in college. I lived in the dorm with rules and curfews before getting married. Does that date me or what?! Smithfield sounds like my kind of town! I'm glad you and Stan enjoyed the day. You will have the 4#s gone in no time because you are determined!

Have a wonderful Wednesday tomorrow! It is supposed to be hotter and more humid here -- by the end of the week the prediction is for low 40s at night and 60s during the day. I think the weather god is trying to tell us something!
