Default Low-carb diet?

I have just been doing a little research about the recommended daily intake of carbohydrates as I'd like to try following a low-carb diet - but I found that there wasn't one!

Can anyone give me a rough idea as to how many grams of carbs per day would qualify as "low-carb"?

Thanks!

Vicky,
We have a low carb area here at 3FC. You can scroll to the bottom of the front page of the forum and find the areas there or here are the links.

I believe strict low carb is somewhere between 25-35 carbs per day. I am trying for a modified low carb which is under 100 carbs per day. It may be something you adjust suited to your own needs.

There really isn't just one answer. Different programs have different guidelines, and not everyone agrees on what low carb means. A good start is The Low-Carb Bible, by Elizabeth Ward.

It describes alot of lower carb programs including Atkins, Carbohydrate Addicts, Neanderthin, Protein Power, Schwarzbein Principle, South Beach, Sugar Busters, Suzanne Somers, and The Zone

People following Neanderthin, The Zone or South Beach plans, generally do not consider the programs "low" carb, but "right carb," but they're still included in the book because they're generally lower in carb than the traditional American diet.

Atkins goes as low as 20 - 60 g carbs. Personally, I aim for about 100 g and eat South Beach/WW Core-style.

I wasn't looking for a specific low-carb diet plan, I was just asking for a number of grams I can aim for that would be low-carb. I am a calorie counter.

Thanks everyone.
