Default Walking dilemma

Sorry if an answer to this has been posted before.

I want to walk every day. I don't have a problem with walking. My friend is a personal trainer and he and I used to go to the gym together every day. I've since lost my job (and he's in the Philippines for 2 months) so I can't afford to go to the gym any longer. I've also since lost my car (it caught fire). My neighborhood isn't the best to walk in. There are a lot of shootings that go on out here (I'm trying desperately to move) and I live out in the country in a trailer park so I can't just as well walk into town to find a place to walk. What are some alternatives or some suggestions you may have for being able to walk at home?

When I walked at the gym, I walked on an electric treadmill. I walked for 30 minutes at 3-4 miles per hour with a 5 minute cool down at the end walking 2 miles per hour. It gave me great results at the time. I'm doing exercises and stretching at home but I really miss that walking.

Have you looked into the Walk Away the Pounds videos?

I do a lot of indoor walking. It's become one of my favorite exercises. I got some of Leslie Sansone's DVDs and some of her equipment (hand weights, stability ball, the loop for the legs) but most times I just do it on my own without the video. It's fun...it becomes like dancing because you're walking forwards, backwards, side to side, doing kicks. Last night I put on my mp3 player and walked and danced around 2 rooms for over an hour. I didn't want to stop.

If there's a mall nearby, maybe you could hop a bus and walk at the mall? Just don't knock people over as you buzz past them!

Ellie,
Two people have mentioned Leslie Sansone to me so far. I'll really have to look into getting her video(s). Thanks!!

Jo,
I live in the country smack dab in the middle of two towns (I have the phone number from one town and the mailing address of the other town!!) so the bus doesn't come out my way. But thanks for the suggestion!!

I'm with Ellie and the dancing around the house. I also jog on the spot while watching TV.
