Default Favorite Get-Together Foods (Potential Food Porn Alert!)

Here's the story, you can skip this part if you want. We're going to visit my family for a couple weeks in Pennsylvania after attending my husband's work conference in Orlando (we're going to Disney World!). I told my family since we won't be there for a holiday I wanted to just have a family get-together because I love to entertain and have everyone together. Since I'm not doing a traditional holiday meal as I've done in the past for Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc I'd like some menu ideas. Soo...

What are your favorite party/holiday/get-together foods and desserts?

you might want to check out Foodnetwork.com....since the focus here isn't so much. They have some great menus for all types of gatherings.

Yep. Food Network. Also, while you are there, check out The Hearty Boys. Dan and Steve have some wonderful dishes for entertaining. They are caterers and give great tips as well. OK. I'm stupid. What's food porn? LOL

I really like the Calorie Commando on Food network. If you want to have some traditional foods healthied up a bit, he does it.

I also tend to try to make food a little healthier when I make it. Depending on when you go (soon?), you could go for lighter summer type fare or what not.

Personally, my favorite is grilled meat. Carne Asada or grilled chicken (sans bbq sauce).

I live on the East Coast now although I am originally from the West Coast. I mentioned to someone that I've never been to Orlando (my company has a huge presence in Orlando), they were surprised only because it is where the east coast theme parks happen to be. I basically said "uhh hello! Disneyland is the place to be, not Disneyworld". Anyway, have fun

HEY STACY ~ not sure what you are looking for here, fancy and sit down or more "family style". When we say "entertain" at my house we are talking risky board games, bocce ball, basketball, beer and margaritas...25 year old kids going out of their way to iritate me

I like Nelie's idea of carna or polla asada the way WE do it here in socal!

You know... any traditional recipe can be tweaked a bit here & there to be made a little healthier & I'm guessing it wouldn't even be noticed!
