Default Ditzy question on workout clothes

I sometimes see people in the gym wearing sweatshirts while they workout. I wear pretty much short-sleeves, all cotton etc. because it seems to keep me cool. I couldn't imagine running on the treadmill wearing a long-sleeved sweatshirt.

I guess my question is if wearing those clothes that make you hot is better for your workouts because you sweat more in a shorter amount of time and it probably increases your heart rate. That's the only reason I can come up with. I would personally die!

I work at a gym and people just tend to wear what they are comfortable in. At times people wear certain things when they are training for something specific. For example, when I used to play sports we would travel and when we were going somewhere very hot and humid we had to work out in sweats to get our bodies ready. Also when people play in sports with weigh ins they will work out in sweats to sweat a lot that way they can stay in a lower weight bracket. I'm like you and tend to wear lighter material for comfort and coolness, my favorite is dry mesh cause you stay super cool and it dries really fast!

This will probably sound pretty funny to you, but when I do my Body Flex workout, I wear a one-piece bathing suit and that's it. That way, nothing cuts me up when I'm doing the funky breathing and I'm streamlined for the sitting/standing positions.

However, in the evening I switch to sports bra and leotard for yoga or pilates or yogilates - need something high-cut in the front so the ol' boobs don't slide out. Occasionally, I'll wear capri pants if I'm a little chilly.

But then, I do all my workouts at home - in the public eye, I have no clue what I would wear. I used to do yoga in a studio and then I wore capri pants and short sleeved sports top that theoretically has wicking to keep the sweat off the skin... but considering I was constantly dripping with sweat when I did it, I'm not sure if it worked.
