Bahamavention??? - 3 Fat Chicks on a Diet Weight Loss Community

Has anyone seen these commercials on TV? Its a promo for the Bahamas and they are hysterical. This guy is a workaholic and has an intervention with friends and family to take a vacation. Has anyone ever been to the Bahamas? Seems nice, my roommate is going with her family in February. Which islands are the best to go to?

I don't watch much tv so I haven't seen them. I was thinking about going to the caribbean but I don't think I'm much of an island girl. My suggestion (from friends and coworkers) would be to look at the virgin islands. They look really nice.

I did virgin islands for my honeymoon...god that was a long time ago. We really liked it.

Really depends what kind of vacation you are looking for. All the islands, even within the Bahamas chain are very different. Some are very rural and laid back, others are all glitz, tourists and casinos. My absolute favorite is Turks and Caicos- the best diving and snorkeling destination short of Australia.

I have been to the Bahamas multiple times because I have family there (my BF's uncle manages a small property on Paradise Island). I totally agree that it depends on what you are looking for. Paradise Island is dominated by the Atlantis resort. It is big and flashy, with gambling, expensive restaurants and tons of people. Not what I would choose personally.

We have also taken day trips to Harbour Island and Eleuthra, which were both totally different. I would much more likely choose to go to one of those islands because they are much less tourist oriented/commercialized.

At this point i just really want to be on the beach and I think that since i have never been to the Bahamas it would be a fun new adventure. I have never really had the big resort experience and i am not sure i would like the "never leave the resort" kind of thing. I just want a nice beach and the Bahamavention commercials keep making me want to see the sun and the ocean. I have also been to the Virgin Islands and they are absolutely beautiful but i just want to try something new and different. So if i am looking for more low key, what islands would you suggest?

DH and I took a 14 day cruise to the Virgin Islands and Bahamas. It was lovely. I liked the Bahamas~we had the best conch chowder and conch fritters while there. It was balmy, yet breezy and not nearly as humid as some of the other islands on our tour.

Eh, cruises are so invasive... The Cable Beach resorts in the Bahamas (Nassau) are gorgeous, reasonably priced, and nowhere near as touristy as the atlantis section or cruise ship areas. We actually went two weeks after the bahamavention commercials started, and every time we saw them it would make it even harder to hold on those last few days!

Alinell the virgin islands are gorgeous, i have been all over the USVI's and the BVI's and it is so wonderful. I think my thing is that I have never been to the Bahamas so that is part of what is pulling me there. Nassau and Paradise Island sound fabulous. Spinymouse, Fiji is a little out of my budget. Not the cheat, I want a family member to live in the BAHAMAS!!! So jealous.

DH and I are considering a trip to New Zealand and I was thinking if we do, that we'd do a stopover in Fiji. It looks nice. I'd also like to visit Tahiti.

I like how you are uber-pampered during a cruise. It is the get away from it all of a life time. I've also considered some all-inclusive resorts, but have found that when I want to go, they're all booked up.....sometimes I want to go in a few months, not a few years. Mexico at Christmas with the kids would be heavenly, but I can't find a place that has any openings. I guess we'll stick with cruises for now. Although with our work schedule it looks like a family vacation is out of the question for several years. Sucks owning your own business sometimes. All we'll be able to manage is long weekends.

Alinell, I am all about being pampered, but i think i would want to be on land. I think a cruise would just be too much rocking for me, i might get sea sick. A lovely resort in the Bahamas could certainly still pamper me, LOL. I think Nassau is going to be just the place for me.

Actually cruises are pretty stable. I went on one the year before last. It was my first and possibly last (maybe an alaskan cruise later on but who knows?). I didn't care for it much. I love travelling and I like being able to explore and get immersed in the area I'm going to. I also don't like going places that are too crowded and touristy.

I am with you on the staying away from touristy places, i like to be with the local people at local bars, restaurants etc. I want to see the islands the way the people that live there do. Why didnt you care for the cruise much?
