Race Report.
First of all, I really really really dont think it was a 10K (6.2 miles). It was a 6 miler. Garmin matched the mile markers EXACTLY at miles 1-4 and then they didnt have one at 5 or 6 and then it was done at 6.01. Also, there was a water stop that I walked through and right after the waterstop was the 11 mile marker for the 20K and I remember being at 4.6, not 4.8. And GMAPS has it as just under 6 miles.
It was pouring rain, cold, hilly and ungodly windy. The wind just about set me on my butt. I was hoping for 10 min miles but would have been happy with 10:30 - and with the wind I was thinking closer to 10:30. Plus I ate too much breakfast trying to not have a pumping bonk (pumping breastmilk before runs has been crashing me) and my tummy was upset.
Mile 1 (GPS1.01) 9:05(waaaay too fast girl!)
Mile 2 (GPS 1.02) 9:47 (hmmm maybe this is ok)
Mile 3(1.00) 9:55 wind kicked in at ~ 2.5 really hard, so this was still working it. good pace
Mile 4 (1.00) 9:59 hills getting tough, starting to feel it, got a bit of a stitch
No 5 mile marker but when the Garmin read 5 I realized I had an outside shot at hitting my
PR except for the killer hill coming up that I have never successfully run up
Mile "6.2" (1.98) 18:39 -8:28(2.2 m) or 9:19 (2m) I walked part of the killer hill. There is no way I averaged 8 min miles on the rest of that.
Either way I am really happy, but I think if I counted this as a 10K it would be setting the bar awfully high because I did it in
57:27!!!!!! Which as a 10K would be 9:15 and as a 6 miler would be 9:35 (
PR for 10K - at least post 2004 because I never kept track of my earlier races - 59:04 or 9:32)
This was definitely a harder 10K though with the wind and the hills. So I dont think it was really a
PR because it was short, but way faster than I expected to be back to in only 3 months post partum. Looking forward to an awesome 2007 running year.
